Steve Lumbly will replace Jim Whipple as 2nd Oficer. Steve has been a
outstanding member of the Lufkin SCRC for many years and has been a road captain
for several of those years. Steve has always been a regular, attending rides and
meetings and has helped many riders numerous times with flats and breakdowns
that was really appreciated. Thanks Steve for your help and being a hard worker
in the past and we look forward to your leadership as 2nd officer of our club.

Due to health issues Jim Whipple has asked to be replaced as 2nd officer of the
Lufkin Chapter of SCRC. Jim has done a outstanding job and deserves our thanks
for his work. Jim has served as Road Captain, Tail Gunner, 2nd officer and has
led rides for several years. Best story I can think of on Jim was while he was
leading a ride to Arkansas we stopped at daylight on Hwy 1 due to the fact you
couldn't see 2 feet due to the fog. Wet, tired and soggy Jim didn't want to stop
the ride. He finally looked over at me and said ,dang were gona get somone
killed up here. I agreed and we rode back to Lufkin that day, 310 miles in the
rain. Some of the riders on that ride applied for the Wet Butt Patch and ware it
today. Thanks Jim for everything. Jimmy Wankan.

Sunday's gathering at Wendy's turned out to be one of the best we have had in a
while. The weather had a lot to do with the number of folks that attended along
with the fact that everyone I talked to was sick of not being able to ride due
to hot/wet conditions. Maybe now we will have a month or so of better riding
conditions. New members that attended were Kenneth and Joan Goodwin and Leah
Hanscom. Both were riding really nice trikes and are experienced riders. Jim
Whipple was on the road again and led a portion on the ride. Steve Lumbley
showed up on a brand new Yamaha,good to see Steve on a motorcycle again. After
some bugers and fries a group of 9 bikes headed out FM 58, on to Zavalla and
across Rayburn on 147, in to Etoile where we stopped and visited for a while
before returning to Lufkin. The weather was just right.Plans are being made for
a Ride/Gathering in November. Stay tuned in and we will see you soon. Jimmy

Obama is  running the biggest deficit in the history of the country.

We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs.

Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble due to poor leadership in school districts.

Our borders are like sieves.

The middle class is being squeezed every which way.

These are times that cry out for leadership.

But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the   point.

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?

We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.

Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm.

Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do the next time.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we going to do about it?

Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC news or CNN news will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?

In my lifetime, I've had the privilege of living through some of    America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great Depression,' 'World War II,' the 'Korean War,' the 'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11.


If I've learned one thing, it's this: 'You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play.

Only a few people in the US know you elected a illegal alien to be President! A Muslim at that! And he jumped right in destroying the US from the inside. Osama bin Laden is smiling from ear to ear because he is winning the war on terror and you helped by voting his man in as President!

That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a "Call to Action" for people who, like me, believe in America '. It's not too late, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the crap and go to work. Let's tell 'em all we've had 'enough.'

The Lufkin SCRC will meet this Sunday, November 1st, at Wendy's in front of
Lufkin Wallmart, on Hwy 59 South, at 1:30 or 2: 00. This will give everyone time
to get there and if it is cool it will be warmer at that time of day. This

Take those onions from the fridge and hide a couple,
when you need to use one, take it from the bowl in the game

OK, it is true. After reading this you will think that I have really lost it. However, this is a true story.
        In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it
and many died.
The Doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the Doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then).
The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave
him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the
onion.   It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.   (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

  The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere.

  Try it and see what happens.   We did it last year and we never got the flu.

  If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the
better.   If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case.
Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on

This scam does not affect residential or cell phone customers & only applies to
businesses, hospitals, government agencies, and other organizations that still
use telephone private branch exchanges (PBXs) rather than Centrex lines to
handle their calls.  On certain PBX systems  (i.e., ones for which pressing '9'
is the signal to obtain an outside line, and there are no restrictions placed on
outgoing calls), a scammer could gain access to place expensive, long-distance
phone calls by tricking an employee into initiating the sequence.  Outside of a
few other settings where one might have to press '9' to obtain an outside line
(such as hotels),  the likely result of pressing #-9-0 will simply be a fast
busy signal.

If you have any doubt whatsoever don't call an operator (most do not have the
proper knowledge to answer this type of question, simply call your telephone
company and ask for an actual Tech. The tech can verify that Only PBX systems
can be affected.

That being said, I would still not do anything asked by a stranger over the
phone considering any telephone tech can access 100% of your line for any
testing remotely with the exception of your physical lines on or in your home.

So basically unless you have to dial 9 to gain an outside line access from your
cell or home phone, you are safe!

individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician (could
also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He
stated that to complete the test I should touch nine(9), zero(0), the
pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and
refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that
by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to
your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance
calls billed to your home phone number.

I was further informed that this scam has been originating
from many local jails/prisons DO
NOT press 90# for ANYONE..

The GTE Security Department requested that I share this
information with EVERYONE I KNOW.

After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so
do not dial 90# for anyone !!!!! PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND
PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!

Steve Lumbly and I are planning to ride to the motorcycle rally in Jefferson this Saturday the 10th. Several others are thinking about going and we all have one thing in common. There is a chance of rain Saturday and cooler temps. so some will stay home. If it's raining Saturday morning Wanda and I are not going. I will post a start time closer to Saturday. This is a gathering not a ride, all are welcome to go with us if we can go. Jimmy

Left Charlies at 10 as planned and rode up to Henderson for the first scheduled stop. There Jim Whipple and Troy Johnson turned around and returned to Lufkin. Jim has just began to ride some. It was good to see him out again after his illness. Wanda and I rode on up to Jefferson where we enjoyed about 5000 bikers in just the downtown area. Good music, lots of food and a ton of bikes. Weather was cool and damp but never rained more than a few sprinkels. We got home at 4:30 and was glad to hit the hot shower after a cool ride. John and Joan Mcgee tired to ride but slipped down in some red mud close to their house and didn't continue. John said they were OK and so was the bike. Plan on some rides soon. Stay tuned in.
