At right, Lotus founder Colin Chapman and World Champion Jimmy Clark pose with the Lotus type 38 shortly before winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1965. Together, they convinced the Indy racing world that mid-engined cars were the wave of the future. Chapman had recently celebrated his 37th birthday.
