I would look at a Morningstar Sunsaver MPPT 15.

If you already have a battery monitor like a LinkLite, the sunsaver mppt 15
could be all you need.

If you need/want a digital readout, you can add the Morningstar RM-1.

Unless you mount the charge controller very close to the batteries, consider
adding the remote temp sensor.

I see both on the AM Solar website, and they are commonly available from a
number of sellers. You're looking at $250-$400 plus install, depending on which
options you choose.

Hi, this may sound as an odd request. We are seriously considering purchasing
an LD Island Bed model. We have been watching the RV classifieds and this forum
for one in the area with no luck. We have looked long and hard at the floorplan
online but feel before taking off to California or the West Coast to purchase an
used one, we would really like to view one in person.

We have been full time rv'ers & Escapess for 10+ year. David is a retired
firefighter and I'm a retired secretary.

We are presently traveling through Louisiana/Arkansas/Tennessee/Indiana area. Is
there anyone out there that would like to show off their 30' Lazy Daze?

Thank you.

I use that model, which is a very sophisticated and well-made design. I like it
because it is small, can be hidden, and does not need a cutout in any panels, if
you do not need the optional readout. Its mounting does have air circulation
requirements, but I have never noticed any heat from ours. It has a maximum
rating of 200W of solar input, 15A output. It is protected against over-driving,
so 170W will be no problem. I am planning to shortly upgrade to 200W solar, from
our current 106W, and am anticipating no issues.

Although I have no solar readout, I do have a LinkLite battery monitor, which is
the more useful tool if you want to minimize read-out clutter.

If your batteries are mounted in the normal "outside" compartment, a
remote temperature sensor is always a good addition, no matter how close
the controller is to the battery compartment.

Mine is located 6" or so from the battery compartment :) It makes for short
wire runs, and the temps are pretty darn close.

You do bring up a good point that I didn't make clear. Don't mount your charge
controller _IN_ the battery compartment.

You didn't say where your home area is but there are several regional Lazy Daze
groups scattered about the country. The best way to get to inspect the coach you
like would be to attend one of their GTGs {Get to Gethers} when there is one in
your area.

Someone on this board should be able to give you a lead to the Northeast Group,
the Southeast Group and I believe the North Central group. One of these should
cover your area. If not there is a Southwest and a SoCal group also.

And you might be interested in the Caravan Club, the big kahuna when it comes to
Lazy Daze.

They will be having a get to gather in up state New York this spring. A quote

2012 at Niagara Falls, NY, hosted by Betty and Bruce Rex. The campground is Four
Mile Creek State Park. Click here for a campsite map."

The group was very helpful. The visit cemented my choice of manufacture (LD)

The still unanswered question is; Did they route the replacement wires through

Bob,

I use an inexpensive timer to turn the shore power on to the LD 1 hr/day. It
seems to work fine for me. I have left the LD this way for months at a time,
although it would probably be a good idea to check the water ever month or two
if it is convenient.

"Were they able to use the same wiring runs, just pulling heavier wire along the

Since the factory securely ties down all cables every couple of feet, it's not
likely you'd be able to pull a new cable along the same path. You might be able
to push or pull a new cable along the same general route, but that's not a sure
thing.

For example, if at some point the factory's cable takes a 90° turn and passes
through a hole in a stud or cabinet wall, that may be difficult to duplicate
when working blind with new cable, since you won't have the advantage the
factory did: they install all wiring before the walls go on.

This isn't to say that you can't install new cabling... just that you're
probably going to have to find your own path for it. You won't be able to just
pull it through existing cable trays or conduits, because there aren't any.

All - FYI
On the newer E-450 chassis there is factory 7 wires going to the rear (past the
differential). One group of 3 wires and another group of 4 side by side. It is
realtively easy to find and change the LD factory 4 prong to a more standard 7
prong. I did this for the installation of a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar for
our 2012 Fiat 500 Sport (manual transmision) Weighing only 2300 lbs it pulls
like a dream. I only needed 4 wires for this application, but the 7 prong
connector is more practical in my opinion.

Bob,

For a few years now I've used a Battery Tender Plus when my LD is garaged at
home.

http://batterytender.com/rv/battery-tender-plus-12v-at-1-25a.html

Of course no solar in the garage. I disconnect the shore power and have
everything shut down inside the motorhome. And just the Battery Tender connected
directly to the batteries (I leave the supplied pigtail on the batteries). I
also put one on the truck (starting) battery. Seems to work well, just as it has
on various cars and motorcycles over the years.

I check the water level MOL monthly.

They make waterproof models if it will be outdoors.

Hi,

Has anyone installed two Lifeline GPL-6CT (300 AH) under the refrigerator of a

would give me 520AH total (in a perfect world).

I don't think I want to install the 6CT in the battery compartment because it's
a really tight overhead fit and with all the connections to the battery, I don't
particularly want the headaches and bruised knuckles. I like to keep things

Any thoughts on the subject???

Howard,

I have used America's Tires on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena near Hill Street for
two sets of tires on two different LD's with success. Joe is the name of the
manager and his crews were great. Both times they ordered "new current" stock
at my request and installed my Tire Man Valve extenders.

My other recommendation would be the Tire Man himself but he is located in
Ridgecrest, CA which is a drive from your location.

I've heard multiple times not to mix type, age, or size of batteries in a
battery bank. You might want to be conservative and use 4 of the same battery.
