Ty,

Strange; my earlier post seems to have disappeared...

In any case, I ended up springing for the Cusco front lower arm bar
which I can recommend for any owner 100%. Improved steering control
and enhanced body stiffness makes the car feel much sportier and
ready to run. In addition, lateral G force is reduced in high speed
corners as the car sits tight on the ground which means better
control through the curves.

Personally, I prefer the slightly heavier feel to the steering as
well as the additional feedback you get from the wheel when driving;
though I enjoyed the original feel, it was a bit light at times.

All in all, I would have to recommend this as a minimum upgrade
(Cusco: $120 or so, installation: $35, time: 30 minutes) for any
serious B4 lover.

Cheers.

Pardon my ignorance....but will changing just the front lower arm bar do all
that you've mentioned?

Not that I'm being sceptical, but I would imagine the folks at FHI should
have a little more pride in making sure the stock bar isnt that bad in the
first place.

Cyberfrog,

No problem. If you take a peek under your car, you will see that
there is no lower arm bar installed on the B4 in the first place so
rather than changing, you are actually *adding* to the suspension.

Once I can get these pictures off of my digital camera, you'll be
able to see what the changes are.

Cheers.

Where did you have the lower arm bar fitted?
At Tokyo Subaru in Ebisu? And where did you test it...
you say "high speed corners" in your appraisal.
Which high speed corners and at what speed, you rebel!?

Peter,

I picked up the lower arm bar at Autowave in Harumi. Total cost was
13,500 plus tax plus installation. Quite a nice price for such a
great upgrade to the car.

High speed corners meaning every chance I got at a clean shot around
corners with no pedestrians. Also, racing around the palace and
coming home over 246 across Akasaka-mitsuke was pretty indicative of
the improved performance.

Tell you the truth, I'd like to do a side-by-side comparison again to
see if I remember what it felt like before the bar...

Cheers.

Hi Jeff,

Well, I can't really quantify the amount of improvement based on my previous
WRX which also had a similar lower arm bar from Mine's (in fact Mine's and
Cusco look suspiciously identical except for the colour). It does improve
stability at corners but it also reduces the ground clearance between the
road. I had suffered a broken lowerarm bar due to that. Based on current
exchange rate, I think the bar would cost about S$300+ in Singapore.

Neo,

In fact, you are right. The bar is an OEM part (Mine's or Cusco) and
have simply been relabeled and painted a different color. After all,
how much more different can you make the bar?

What did you do to break the lower arm bar? You must have been going
pretty quickly over a speed bump or curb... ;-)

Cheers.

Hi,

Any one here able to shed some light on how the B4 turbo
setup works? Especially how it differs from the earlier setup.

I belive one difference is that the primary turbo has a flapper
valve or something to prevent over spooling. Is this passive or
controlled by the ECU.

How is boost control done for both turbos? The earlier setup seems
to use a combination of primary wastegate control and secondary
exhaust gas flap control. The secondary wastegate seems to be only
setup as an overboost protection device.

Thanks

Boys,

Just checked and the event fair will be at Super Autobacs, Tokyo Bay
on April 15-16. All of Subaru's main performance suppliers will be on
hand to show and sell their various wares.

Cheers.

Yep

I think it might be a good idea to
make the jump to light speed,
get out and hit this event.
The wallet might have cobwebs
in it right now, but I think I'll
lean on my credit card to splurge
for a front suspension upgrade.

Hey Jeff!

Is it possible at all to help us (those in Singapore) check out what ECU
upgrades there are?
Basically, we're interested in boxes made for auto trans (i think the Prova
one sounds promising) and whether they ship entire boxes.

I was hoping to get one but i think some of the companies quote prices based
on one-to-one exchange, i.e. i'll be w/o my car for days! Perhaps in a
motor-show, prices will be more competitive?

P only spins on race tracks! Btw, PLyon played a studley hand in the
embassy's victory v. the indian cricket team yesterday. Not only did the B4
carry all the team kit, it also took 4 up and all the individual gear, too
(which adds up to a mountain of schtuff). The packaging is impressive to say
the least!

Jeff, on Sat., depending on cricket training, I may have to join you, what
time do they open?

Boys in Japan,

I'll be heading out as early as possible as it *will* probably be a
zoo. Wondering what toys will be available that us lucky B4 owners
will need...

(pete, if you want to take a spin in my car before you commit, plan

Anton,

I believe it starts when Autobacs opens... why not plan on being
there earlier than later for all those who can attend?

FYI, I stuck a picture of the lower arm bar in the
Files/Miscellaneous Pictures section on the website so those who want
to take a peek can head on over there.

Cheers.

CF,

If you are planning to stay in the $1,000 price range for the
upgrade, these normally require a trade-in on the original box. Not
to sure if prices will be any better but at least you will get a feel
for what's out there.

Peter took his car down to Prova directly to get his ECU changed to
avoid having any downtime in his car. If you guys are willing to do
the installation yourself, perhaps something could be worked out (ie.
buying in quantity and working out a deal with the supplier).

Cheers,

Jeff

Yeah! Like what time is that? Also, both days are fine for moi now, but I
can see you hyper lads wanting to get there early to drool over all the
stuff you can't use without screwing up your warrantee!!

Auto Plus is the mag to check out btw, I gave you guys the wrong info the
other day - sorry! I am still drying it out after showing it to the Lyon
yesterday!! I am happy to say it also has a pretty good explanation of the
brake thing we were discussing recently!

Also, the ECU change is dead easy if you have steady hands (don't bend the
connectors!!) and a scewdriver. How easy is it to rebuild the engine when it
let's go after the chip change, though?

Cheers,

The place probably opens around 10 or so. I think I'll drop by early afternoon
on SAT and see if they have any deals for my Subbie. The only item I'm looking
for is a good price on the STi rear trailing arms.
For all you Subbie fans out there, the last limited edition Impreza is out! The
S201, looks like to Electra announced at the Tokyo Motor Show.
http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/s201/top.htm
They are only making 300 of these babies so if you;ve been eyeing an Impreza,
this is your last chance! This will probably be the last special Impreza based
on the GC-8 body design.
Interestingly enough, this version has a catalog HP rating of 300HP, with
special ECU etc. I wonder if STi is picking a fight with the Unyusho? The above
page is well laid out with PIC and spec of all the toys this baby come with.
FYI- I'll stick to my STi4.
Cheers,
MW

Yep you're right about the WRX "S201."
It is the Electra One seen at the Tokyo show.

And yes, I have a press car from May 13-15.
I'm thinking of scooting down to Hakone (probably
on the Sunday) to shoot some pics. Any takers?

And yes, it does have 300ps, and no there
is no real fight with the Transport Ministry
as this "maximum 280ps" is nothing but
a gentleman's agreement has
begged to be broken for years. Who knows,
this car might be the catalyst to force the
other carmakers to come clean and tell
us how much their chargers are REALLY
pumping out. I mean, hey, the Evo VI TM
version is obviously spitting out more
than 320ps, while the GT-R packs in
excess of 300 horses easily.

And why don't we put it to a vote.
Let's get a concensus...
What is the correct way to spell this word?
1) Soobie
2) Sooby
3) Subie
4) Suby
5) Subbie
6) Subby
7) Scooby
8) Scubie

Pete,
Count me IN!!!!!! Just say when. If you are not using it on the 13th, I will be
more that happy to warm it up for you :)

You can count me in! Assuming anybody close enough to me is going that I
can scam a ride from. Miracles aside, I won't have my B4 by this weekend.

Oh, and on Saturday, if you all wouldn't mind, I'd like to invite you
all over to my place for lunch. It's quite nearbye, about 10-15 minute
drive depending on traffic, and best of all, free food! Well, it may
just be a huge pot o' spagetti, or possibly sandwich's. I just know that
the food choices at the Super Duper Autobacs is quite limited, having
waited there for 4 hours once getting springs put into my poor Legacy.

Wasn't one of the NSX variants officially listed at 300+ hp? I think it
was the 3.2-litre.

I remember seeing in the press that there are plans for Honda to release the new
NSX (2002?) with 340HP-400HP.

Hi,

Just come away from a local car show "Island of Cyprus" and saw the RSK-B4
and was most impressed to say the least :-)

Just wondered if anyone in the UK on this list has one and could tell me
what the running costs are like (insurance, tyres, mpg etc).

I already have a two wheeled beastie that goes through a tyre a month !!!

Best wishes,
