Hey guys,
I've got a Black 98 GTP coupe with 132k on it. Its always ran great
and I can smoke most of my competition. It's modified and pushes
about 300 HP at the fly. I recently moved to Montana and the tranny
has gone south! Here are the issues-
1. At idle in park, there is a grinding noise or howl you could say,
until you shift into gear.
2. When taking off in reverse it does not always want to go, it
grinds or does not grab until you rev up to 2500-3000 rpm
3. When manually downshifting or kicking the pedal down at highway
speeds , it doesnt grab right away and slams into 3rd or 2nd
depending on how much you accelarate
4. After driving, smoke comes up from the back side of the engine.
It does shift smoothly from a stop, up into overdrive strangely
enough. I also had it flushed 10k ago and fluid level is full.
I'm thinking a possible torque convertor and also a shift selnoid.
The smoke might be because of some snapped tranny bolts or engine
mount. I do lots of work on cars and can pull the tranny out. I
have never fixed a tranny itself, only replaced with another one.
Before I go crazy on it, any other ideas or suggestions would be
appreciated.
