I will be leaving El Cajon for Truckhaven around 10:AM on Tuesday 11/24 and staying until Sunday morning. On Thursday Suzanne and I will be visiting our Son’s in-laws in Indio for their Thanksgiving celebration so we will not be 4 wheeling Thursday.
On Friday I will lead a Novice Run (see message# 8245 for details).
I plan on wheeling on Saturday but not leading a “Club Run” Saturday.
If you wish to camp with us, look for the JustRuns sign on the north side of Hwy. S22 approximately 1.2 miles east of the microwave tower or approx. 6 miles west of Hwy. 86. After turning onto the dirt road take the left fork to camp. (Note: this is about 200 yds. west of our regular Truckhaven camp spot.) If arriving after dark, look for a flashing white strobe in camp.
Please bring firewood if possible. RSVP not Required
We have over 80 licensed HAM in JustRuns. Most of us are not “Radio Enthusiasts” but rather use the HAM radio as a backup to our required CB radio while 4 Wheeling and as a way to contact emergency help via a Repeater when other modes of communication are not available.
HAM repeaters are owned, operated and maintained by local HAM Radio Repeater Clubs. Most repeaters are open for any licensed HAM to use at no charge. The cost of maintaining repeaters is supported by HAM Club membership dues and donations.
If you are a licensed HAM, please consider joining one of the local Repeater Clubs or making a donation to a Repeater Club to help maintain local repeaters. The Repeater Club dues are nominal, ranging from about $20 to $30 per year which goes toward operating local repeaters.
The clubs generally hold membership meetings one weeknight per month. Attendance in not required to remain a member. I have included the dates/time/location of some of the local club’s meeting on the JustRuns Calendar.

This run is intended for New Members and Guests who haven’t had much 4 wheeling experience or those with near stock vehicles. More Experienced drivers will take the time to demonstrate 4 wheeling techniques in varied terrain. Truckhaven is a great place to learn as there is a good variety of easy, moderate and challenging obstacles and there are alternate routes around most of the more difficult obstacles.
We will be camping on the flat area just west of the regular JustRuns camp spot. (See directions) The area there is more suitable for tent campers than our normal campsite. Look for the JustRuns sign at the turnoff of S22. If arriving after dark, look for a flashing white strobe light in camp. After turning off of S22 bear to the left on the dirt road. This area is suitable for RVs as well as tent campers.
I forgot to put in the run announcement, see message #8225 what to look for. I
will be in my Winnebago Adventurer RV with a grey trailer behind it. My rig is a
dark green Toyota 4Runner.

I frequently get emails asking for recommendations for 4WD related equipment or
service providers.
There is a link on our Yahoo Home Page for Suppliers/Service Providers who have
been recommended by JustRuns Members. (or, go to
http://www.justruns.com/files/REC.htm and click on the link in the top left hand
corner.)
If you have a supplier/provider that you want to recommend to other members,
please read the instructions and we will include your recommendation on the
list.
Please notice that we do not include "Negative Recommendations" on our list. If
you have had a bad experience with a supplier, and want to share it with other
members, read the instructions for doing so.
I am interested in finding others interested in going wheelin' on Mondays. I
noticed that most runs are scheduled on Saturdays but that does not work with my
days off. I know there are others that also work weekends and would like to get
something going for weekdays. If you are interested, please let me know.
I am a new member and I'm going to try to make the Thanksgiving weekend run.

Im still working on the biggest Jeep to carry the Jeep logo; the M715.
Im going to mate a Fuller FSO 8406 A 6 speed to the Cummins in the garage and
drop that in to make it go down the road. The problem is I cant seem to find
one that fits my budget!
Anyone know where I can find a good used or rebuildable Fuller
FSO 8406A? The final combo should be a 6BT Cummins 12 Valve, Fuller
FSO 8406A a divorced Transfer case from SCS gear and 35 spline Dana 70's
Unitl I get that combo mated up Im going to run a 350/465 Muncie with a NP 205
to get it to move. It's to big to keep moving by pushing it although I am
getting in better shape!

We create a Photo Album for each of our Runs in the JustRuns Photo Gallery. If
you take photos on a Run please consider sharing them with the Group by posting
the best of them in the Gallery. I realize that it is more difficult to post in
the JustRuns Gallery than in some other photo services like Picasa but the
Gallery is a central place where members and guests can easily find and view
photos from a specific Club Run.
Someone who went on the Jacumba run sent me a link to Picasa of some great
photos from that run. If that was you, please consider posting in the JustRuns
Gallery.

I had six rigs go on the run. We got to County Line at 8:00 am. Everyone got
aired down and hit the Mud Hills by 8:20. Everyone had fun trying new lines all
day. We stopped for lunch at 11:30. We got back on the trail by 12:00. and at
1:00 I snapped my left front axel. It took almost long enough for everyone to
drink their soda and I had a new one installed and we were back on the trail.
We wheeled until about 3:30, then headed for home. Thanks everyone, Jeff.
Thanks for all the response, I had several members offer gps units at very fair
prices and even one member offered me one for free! I no longer need one and
have made arrangements to pick up unit tomorrow, once again thank you for the
response. By the way thanks to Jeff for the good run (pole line). I think we
all got pretty good body damage, my cab is pushed in from being on its side, and
I know Jeff got his doors, not too mention the other guys. It's nice to do one
of these hardcore runs every once in awhile with guys that don't care about
scratches or dents.(or axles) Thanks. Tom W.

after seeing the posts about gps and upgrading I am wondering if anyone would
like to sell their old gps, mine finally died after 10 yrs, I only use the lat
and long features, I have no use for anything else, so I dont care about
features as long as it works. I have seen new ones at walmart for as little as
$79 but I will never use any of the features on these other than current
location. So if you have one you would like to sell cheap shoot me an email.
Thanks. Tom

These trails are suitable for novice drivers but are popular with experienced drivers as well. I would rate the Border Trail at no more than a 2. The Carrizo Overlook has a couple of obstacles I’d rate at 2+.
We will meet between the two gas stations at the off-ramp from Interstate 8 just east of Jacumba. From there will travel a few miles via Carrizo Gorge Rd. and Old Hwy 80 to the trailhead to air down. After enjoying the Border Trails on the south side of Interstate 8 we will cross under the freeway to the north side and do the Carizzo Overlook trail before heading back to the meeting place to air up.
A few things I’d look for in a GPS for 4 Wheeling:
· Internal battery (for portability)
· Ability to attach to vehicle 12v for power
· Ability to download different maps. (Topo etc.) (lots of memory)
· Large enough screen to see while driving
· Ability to create “Tracks” (leave bread crumb trail)
· Ability to download Tracks off of a website (Some models can create Tracks but don’t allow you to download Tracks. (Some turn Tracks into Routes. Routes are not as useful.)
· Auto and manual Routing capability with using multiple waypoints
· Ability to download Geocaching data directly into GPS .
Ok, we are looking to upgrade our GPS device and would like to get feed back
from you experienced folks of just runs! I need the ability to download offroad
trails / maps etc.... I'm looking at the Garmin Nuvi 755.... for $199.00 but i'm
not real sure yet.
Any input will be greatlly appreciated.

Hi,
Looking for a SoCal Toyota mailing list (yahoo or google group is great) so I

I was able to get this trailer out of my yard today, and for $120 a member of JustRuns now has a better method of carrying his kayaks to San Diego Bay. I still have items for sale on the JustRuns For Sale section. I'm trying to clear some space in my garage, and clean the place up a little. But, thanks again!
I will be arriving on Wednesday, November 25th and staying for 4 nights.
I plan on goofing off, and exploring the area on Wednesday, Thursday &
Saturday. The official run will be on Friday. You are welcome to stay as
long as you like, or come out for the official run. Bring the family,
kids & etc. There is plenty of room for RV's. There is a sandy area to
the west of our camp that is more suitable for tents. Borrego Springs
and Salton Sea City are within 30 minutes of camp.
Place: JustRuns camp in Truckhaven off of S-22, east of Borrego
Springs. About 1 mile to the east of the huge tower on the north side
of S-22.
When: Friday, November 27th.
Departure: Meet at 9:00 am, leave at 9:15 am. If we have a large group,
we may split into 2 groups. Lunch on the trail. Usually back by sunset.
Difficulty: Mostly going to be the fun challenging stuff, so I would
rate the trails, say a 2.5+. I would recommend one locker and 33" tires
at a minimum.
Usual JustRuns required equipment.
I will be winging it on the other days and probably leave by 9:30 am
each morning, but no promises.
If camping, please bring some firewood.
RSVP requested, but not required.
Thanks,

It may behoove those of us that do have a Ravelco system, just to leave our keys in the ignition, and only take the fob when we leave the Jeep. The crooks will have thought they struck gold since the key will turn in the lock and light up the dashboard. But fortunately for us, the engine won't turn over.
Just a thought.....

Just got my bill from the dealer for the repairs to my steering column from the
attempted theft of my Jeep...$686. Only reason I still have the Jeep is the
battery was out sitting on my workbench on a trickle charger. Next step is to
order up a Revelco ($363) so I can drive and park it somewhere without getting
it stolen but that doesn't mean another dumb ass won't try to steal it again and
I'm out another $686. Don't know how many times I'll replace/repair the steering
column before it gets old and I get rid of the Jeep.
Question is, what are others doing to protect their steering column from the
dumb asses?? Anybody have access to a small foundry?? I'm thinking a two part,
clam shell that replaces the factory cover, made out of aluminum, that also
protects the ignition.
For those that haven't had the pleasure of having their Jeep vandalized by dumb
asses, attached is a pic -
County Line Road Mud Hills - We will be leaving 78 & S2 at 7:15 am to get to 78
and County Line Road at 8:00 am, air down and hit the Hills. I plan on wheeling
the area for most of the day. We will eat lunch on the trail. The area has from
a 2 rating to 3+, but all hard lines are optional. We will use 14 on the CB.
Please have the required equipment. Jeff 619-886-1451 or after Friday noon -

I had 7 rigs on the run. Everyone made it through the squeeze without damage. By
9:30 everyone was down The Drop and we were on our way to Sandstone Canyon for
lunch. After lunch we went east on Fish Creek to Diablo turnoff. We went to the
top and this is when the group split. Half went out south to S2 and the rest
returned to Fish Creek and went out to Split Mountain Road. We then went east on
78 to County Line Road to check out the Dry Mud Hills. They are lots of fun with
easy to hard lines. Thanks to everyone for coming. Jeff

We had one Hummer, a Toyota, and four Jeeps that showed up at the Wagon Wheel
Restaurant Friday morning, a great breakfast they do serve, and very helpfull
about the run we were to begin.
We visited Fort Piute, and Mitchell Caverns on the first day, then camped at the
"Whole In The Wall" campground, Roger visited the camp host for a bit, also a
JustRuns member.
The second day we went to Marl Springs and the "Mailbox", a kind of geocache in
plain view, with a sign in book. We then headed for Afton Canyon before
nightfall to setup camp before dark.
The substitue leader(myself) did not have the trip planned too well and made a
few wrong turns, but thanks to all the participants who helped me out, we did a
good run.
Hope to see you all on the next run.
Thanks
Doug
