Yup I had that problem. Suprisingly it is the alternator and charge relay. It cost me 300 for the alt @ Napa, and 25 for the relay( had to buy from the dealer)...
The problem has to be in the column somewhere, obviously you are only making a temporary connection with the key in the start position and not the On position....
