I just got a beautiful '72 Scout II. She ran for about a month, now it
looks like tha alternator may have gone bad. I want to take care of
her myself, so I started looking for a Chilton. I found them ranging
from $84 all the way up some nut who thinks they're going to get
$1,895. Anyone know where I can get a readable copy that didn't cost
more than the Scout? Thanks,

Heather

John, I suspect the alternator mainly because of what the gages were doing. I had initially assumed the her taking awhile to go from the "D" side to the "C"...

Heather, I would definitely have the alt and battery tested at your local auto parts store before you start looking at other things. You should be able to add...

Heather, There's One more thing you might want to check. If you look at the fire wall from the passenger side you will find a round wire connector with 2 10 ga...

The only specialty tool i needed on my '75 was a plate press to get the steering wheel off, since it wasn't the same size threads as my GM plate press, i...
