i asked a friend of mine on another car list and this is what he said:
I had a somewhat similar experience with a '94 Z28. After baffling me for
some time. I found if I turned slow (low MPH), it didn't happen but at
normal speeds it would. After lifting the hood (for the 35th time) and looking
(okay, glaring) at it, I left it idling and started pulling on wires to see
if I could make it stumble/die. After trying many things, I eventually
tried the battery itself. Viola! The battery was heavy enough at low MPH to
not move but at normal speeds, the battery would tilt on one end and short
out.
I don't know if this is your friends issue but I can recommend the process
to see if he too can make his stumble/die while idling.

hope that helps?!
