Subject: [hondasilverwings] Dr Pulley's HiT Clutch Installed

I installed Dr Pulley's new HiT Clutch kit over this past holiday weekend.

Replacing the OEM clutch is a pretty straight forward affair, and somewhat
easier than replacing the drive belt.

I'd previously replaced the stock Variator Rollers with Dr Pulley's 28 gm Slider
Rollers. The difference in acceleration was very dramatic with that upgrade.
However, I was still getting clutch slippage and clutch chatter --a bit more
chatter than is normal for our Silver Wing. So I decided to contact Dr Pulley
about their rumored two-stage Clutch upgrade.

Replacing the OEM clutch is a pretty straight forward affair, and somewhat
easier than replacing the drive belt.

The Clutch Kit arrived in short order and came with a selection of optional
clutch shoe springs and several Variator Sliders and Rollers.

The initial 100 mile test ride demonstrated Dr Pulley's motto, "Explosive
Acceleration". The test ride was very impressive, with dramatic acceleration no
matter what cruising speed I was at when I decided to crank it up.

Later in the ride, however, the clutch chatter re emerged (at initial clutch-in
rpm of ~2000 rpm). That matter will be taken care of in due order when I take
down the drive system again and tweak the system using the other springs which
came with the kit. More on this later.

On another note, I managed to get a rear tire puncture about 25 miles from home.
After an hour or more of fuss'n & cuss'n I managed to get the tire plugged,
reinflated and on my way again.

A downside to this is that I'll be replacing that tire with a Dark Side,
Sumitomo. That'll end up altering my speedo & odo readings, so future posts re
speeds, mileage, and mpg's will not be from the same common basis as those of us
still running bias-ply 'standard' tires.

Thanks to Paul Wu of Dr Pulley for the excellent service & tech info

Tim

After removing all of the left cover stuff you're left with the variator, drive belt & driven pulley/clutch assy exposed. To remove the driven pulley/clutch...
