Some have stated that MC batteries should be charged at 2 amps max so maybe the
6 amp charge was boiling or frying the battery.

Hello all. I had the strangest thing happen today with the
2007 Reflex. With almost all the plastic taken off, I'm
waiting for the new replacement plastic. And the seat is off
too so the storage space light switch stays in ON mode. I
unhooked the bulb on one side, but it somehow got moved
around, so naturally the battery ran down to absolute zip.
I put it on the charger for about an hour so I could get it
started. Done, and it started and ran fine. after a good warm
-up, I ran it off and on for about 5 minutes zipping back
and forth in front of the house a few times. I knew it didn't
have a complete and deep charge, so I put it back on the
charger at the 6 amp setting and started to let it charge. A
few seconds later I hear this brief whistle sound. I couldn't
tell if it came from the battery, but I unhooked the charger
anyway and let it set for a few minutes while I pondered the
oddity of the event. I started it and ran it a few seconds then
turned it off again. I put it back onto the charger, but this
time at 2 amp setting and it did that short little whistle
again. I unhooked it again and left it unhooked. One thing to
note here is that the only thing hooked up was the instrument
panel. No lights plugged in at all. Normally with the engine
on, there is a constant load with the headlights and running
lights on. Even so, the ignition is off while it was being
charged. I'm wondering if there is something like over charging
happening and gas pressure release from the battery going
on or if it might be something with the carb and starting
enrichment or something else being affected with pressure
change in vaccuum lines and the pressure changes making noises
just coincidental to charging activity. Or possibly even the
cooling system? I did let it idle for a good bit til the temp
guage was at mid point and the fan automatically turned on.
So the engine was quite warm. Could it be that this noise
occurs normally sometimes, but is not heard since that area
is normally covered and would mask any such noises? Any Ideas
on any of this? Anybody ever hear whistling or hissing while
charging a battery for their scoot or maybe a couple minutes
after turning their scoot off?
