I would like to introduce myself, and say how gald I am to be a
member of your group.
My name is Craig Rollins, and I just bought a 2005 Insight on
the 14th of this month. It was used, bright red, with just over 4800
miles on it, and in new condition. I have the five speed manual with
a/c.
I took forever to get through the first tank of gas: I became
addicted to setting a high 'average'. The fellow who had the car
first had a lifetime average of 54.6 mpg, so I assume he was
enjoying himself :). I have raised that to 56.4, and am working on
getting the ltavg above 60. I averaged 66 mpg on the first tank,
commuting and around town driving.
Took the Insight on our 'mileage run' yesterday. Started out
in town, then highway, then mountains (that little 1 liter engine
really made me use the gears, too). Slogged through Logan in heavy
traffic, stop and go, then came home by a diferent route, stopping
for lunch in Brigham City. Bottom line: 126 miles on 1.6 gallons of
gas. 78.51 mpg!! Whoof! I love it! This is according the to
the 'fill it up, drive, fill it again, then divide' method.
According to the computer, we were getting 82.3 mpg before we hit
the Logan traffic.
This car is the most motorcycle-like car I have ever driven.
Hard to explain. High quality workmanship, minimal gimmicks, very
light weight. I like it!
I look forward to learning about this car from you folks.
Craig
