HI ....the weather here is just starting to get
really good, we are coming into summer but we too can
ride all year round as it doesnt often get below 1
degree centigrade..
happy riding : )
Debs
Dale talked me into joining, so here I am. Can't
really think of anything to say for a first message,
sorry.
Oh, I know: If anybody ever wants to add some
nifty running lights to their Helix, JC Whitney sells
some generic ones for $3 apiece that fit perfectly
onto the side reflector mounts. All you need to do is
pop off the reflector, drill some holes into the
plastic mount, wire it up and mount the light. They
almost look like they came with the bike, rather than
added later.
Jeez, I really need to get some
pictures online...

Tim, '93 Helix
Colorado

I bought a new windscreen here in the states that
is 2 inches taller. I'm 6'2" and I can see through
the windscreen. The price was around $85 compare to
$170 for a orginal Honda. I don't know how much it
would cost you being in New Zealand. I hope it works
out for you, I don't know how your weather is this
time of year? I live here in Phoenix, Arizona and you
can ride year round. Well good luck.......Chow for
Now.....Dale
Hi well I have been trialling different
extensions for my windscreen and have found that the
cheapest option has turned out to be the best ...just a
visor for a helmet screwed onto the top of the original
windscreen, now that you have to look through the screen all
the time it is essential that in wet weather you put
some rain-X or equivalent on so the rain just runs
off, but it works well just measure the amount of
extension you need to allow the wind to go over the top of
your helmet rather than hitting you fair in the middle
at the top.
Debs
Randall I'm sadden:( also. Please don't give up
yet. I'd keep those part numbers and keep trying other
Honda dealers and maybe someone has one on their dusty
back shelf somewhere. If I were you, I'd check junk
yards with motorcycles and scooters and see if they
have a radio from a scooter. The Hoda Elite is the
same radio as the Helix for all years. The Elite is
mounted totally inside the glove box where the Helix is
mounted in the glove box with the face plate sticking
through the door. Well, don't give up and keep your eyes
open, someone has a radio out there.....Chow for

Dale,

I think I'm even more disappointed
today than I was elated yesterday when I ordered the
radio for my Helix. I got a v-mail message today from
Arizona Motorsports informing me that the parts I ordered
(the audio system and the audio kit) had been
discontinued by Honda and therefore the order could not be
filled.

Oh well...I guess I'm no worse off than before.
Thanks for your efforts.

Randall L.

Dale, thanks for your help. I've been looking for
a radio for the Helix since I bought it in Aug.
'98. I called Town & Country and ordered everything
today. I expect to have it in a week. Again, I really
appreciate the help. If I can ever be of assistance to you,
let me know.

I'll be sure to keep everyone in
the club up to date on the
installation.

Randall L. Woodruff
Anderson, IN
R.L. Woodruff of Indiana, Hi, Dale again. I did
some calling around and found that radio for the Honda
Helix. You can call or go on-line with
www.azmotorsports.com with Town and Country Motorsports in Chandler,
Arizona. They do mail directly to you with any order with
your credit card and just give Chad a call
480-503-3333. There is two things you have to order in order to
install into the Helix. The first part is the Audio
system(am/fm Kenwood Stereo) 08118-KM100, the price is
$300.30. Next is a Audio Kit 08118-KS410, the price is
$74.80. I hope this is a lot of help to you. Maybe try
your local dealership to see if these are valid part
numbers for the same system but close to you. Anyway,
please reply to see if you got this message and let
everyone know if this works out for you. There maybe
someone else out there looking also. Goodluck.......Chow
for Now.....Dale ;)
I'm the one who wrote you about the Helix radio.
From the accessory book you have does it appear that
the Kenwood radio is available? I would be happy to
pay $320 for a Kenwood for my Helix. Could you
possibly copy and email me the relevant pages of the
accessory book? I would be most appreciative. Thanks for
replying.

R.L. Woodruff
Anderson,

I tore apart my 1993 Helix with about 24,650
miles on it 2 weeks ago and found that there is
weighted rollers in the front pulley system. I wanted to
inspect to see how everything is wearing and found these
rollers that are covered with a plastic coating had all
worn flat spots on them. Well it had a lot to do with
a smooth take off with mine a jumping rough
takeoff. I ordered new rollers with a grease seal and it
took 10days to get them in. I put my scooter together
Wed. to ride to a company computer class across town
and wanted to ride the carpool lane for Thursdays
trip. My top speed ever on the scooter was 74mph. Well
when I got on the freeway and opened it up it cruised
up to 75mph WOW! I got further down the road where
there is a tunnel and I got a final top speed of
77mph!! On the way back from the class on thurs. there
was a traffic jam for 6miles of breathing fumes from
cars around me for over 25 minutes. I finally broke
loose and got back to the shop where I work and gas up
the scooter with the gas pump at work and found that
after figuring my milage I got 70mpg!! Impressive even
with my 290lbs bottom on this thing. This scooter is
still running strong with no problems. And I'm going to
guess that the other week with my scooter cutting out
was bad fuel I received from a gas station. Thanks
for your input.......Chow for Now.....Dale
Someone Yahoo a message to me about a radio for a
Helix. Mine is also a 1993 Helix with 24,650 miles on
it. It already came with a radio when I acquired for
free when someone abandon it in a parking lot in the
Condo complex I live at. I was at a Honda dealership
and found a book with Helix accessories in it for the
Radio system. The price was about $320 for the Kenwood
system that comes with a thumb remote control on the
hadle bar. If you have anymore questions please
reply....Chow for Now.....Dale
Thanks....I did put a deposit on the '86 Helix!
It is pearl/white and in remarkable condition for
the age. It has brand new tires and a new belt. The
muffler is a bit rusted as is the front wheel. The rear
wheel must have been replaced recently but before the
dealer got it. I may elect to replace the front wheel
before taking delivery. Otherwise it is hard to believe
that it is so old! It only has 10,277 miles as I
recall so it hasn't been over-ridden! Too bad our
weather is cold and rainy now but that is why the
bargains occur at this time of year. Looking forward to
the very first ride.....they let me sit on but not
start the machine! A friend went along and took it for
a spin. Whereas he rides a 1999 Gold Wing, he did
admit to having a bit of fun around the block on the
Helix. Thanks again for the input and am envious of your
season! Cindy
>>my point is people dont seem to have used
them for ordinary comuting although I dont know
why!!!

Hello everyone... I've ridden my Helix in the rain
recently a few times, and was surprised to not feel any
uneasiness. Only thing would be to drive slower and more
careful around turns and such like you might do anyway in
a cage.

The reason I don't ride for more
daily commuting is... "Helmet Head!" I have somewhat
longer hair, and I prefer to wear a full-face full size
helmet. Of course the two are mutually exclusive so my
hair gets a real messed up look. I'll usually only
ride to work if I can get away with wearing a baseball
hat that day...

Take care,
Jim
Omaha, NE

Hi Cindy, well how did you get on? if you got it
what colour is it and what condition....if you didnt
bad luck , another one will turn up, our weather is
just starting to come good now so I am starting to
really enjoy the Helix again, re replacing parts, as far
as I know from the manual the drive belt needs to be
looked at and or replaced at around 36000kms /24000miles
brake pads I would suspect around the same time but I
guess it depends on who has been riding and how. mine
looks ok at the moment, not much sign of wear at all as
for total lifespan ,....I really dont know but they
seem pretty hardy and it appears they dont die maybe
it is too soon to tell yet.
Debs
Thanks, Debs, I am going to look at an '86 today
with over 10,000 miles with a new belt and new tires.
It is at a dealership about 60 miles away but is
priced reasonably. How many miles before brakes need
attention? If properly cared for, what is the mileage
life-span of one these beauties? At the age of this one, I
am sure I wouldn't ever reach that limit, but I
would like to know and I don't usually believe the
dealer's salesmen.Too bad our weather is about to turn
ugly and I won't get to learn to ride until APril or
so! Thanks for your input here and on Jim's previous
sight.
Cindy
Hi Chclark..dont know how many miles they should
do..I have a 1996 and have done 21500kms however I use
mine every day and I know that others around the world
tend to nly ride them inperfect weather
conditions...dont like to get it wet..although they handle the wet
beautifully and of course with all that plastic they dont
rust ; )
my point is people dont seem to have used
them for ordinary comuting although I dont know why!!!
I am sure this will provoke a response...anyuway
mine goes great.
Debs
How many miles does one expect a bike to go? If
it is 10 years old, how many miles would be an
indication of trouble brewing? So many Helix's I see
advertised are extremely low mileage and high age
offerings. And yet I wonder what others have experienced before
major repairs are needed. Thanks.
So strange! My scooter ran home and came into
work this Saturday morning and it didn't even skip a
beet. I'm starting to agree it may be the gas. I buy my
gas only from Costco which is a membership mega
warehouse where you can buy food in bulk or your next
computer system, tv's, refrigerators and also gas at $1.07
gallon. I'll get through this tank and fill up somewhere
else and see want happens. Today I'm going to tear
down the drive and inspect to check the belt, gears,
and clutch. Any feed back is always appreciated.
Thanks....Dale......Chow for now
Fresh fuel is not necessarily clean fuel. In
Massachusetts where I live they tested gas stations all over
the state and almost 30% of the gas tested was
contaminated to some degree. In several stations the gas was
so bad it was grossly discolored. Just a thought.
Best of luck. By the way - the bargin discount type
places were the worst.
I managed alright, even got back to work. I can
still feel it wants to die on me still. No all the fuel
lines are ok, fuel fresh, never use the on/off switch.
Any other Ideas????

Chow for now......Dale
...just wondering if you managed to get home.?
you checked all the fuel
lines...no kinking etc
everything was still attached..
no dirty fuel....on
/off switch wiring ok?
Debs
Going to work this morning, I was cruising around
50mph when my scooter just cut out. Coasted for a bit
down to 30mph and it fired back up. Got about another
mile down the road and it really cut out that I had to
pull over. Once I stopped, I hit the starter button
and it fired right up again?? I finally got to work
with it kinda missing but not cutting out. Anyone out
there have any ideas.
1. the scooter has about
24,500 miles on it.
2. has a new battery since April
1999
3. just replaced the alternator and I also
have bright headlights
4. has fresh fuel in it
5. has done this cut out before but thought
the
scooter was cold and not warmed up yet
Please any
ideas on where to start, I am kinda worry on getting
back home tonight.... Well Chow for now and thanks in
advance on replies.

P.S. I'm writing this on my
work computer/e-mail system and will be checking
throught the day...
hey Jim hope you can pop in anytime.
saw a skywave today ...in the flesh os
to speak
looked ok..wouldnt like to be the
pillion and definately would
rather
have the helix......
Debs
Hello! This club replaces my former web site that
hosted a FrontPage2000 discussion web on the Honda
Helix. I did not have the time or money anymore to
maintain the site at my hosting
provider.

Fortunately, it looks like this may be a good substitute for
my old site! I will start posting some back messages
and information and some of the photographs as I have
time in the future.

In the meantime, please
start posting your questions, hints, and
