Re: [honda_nighthawk] Speedo gear hub

I don't have a book for the 750, but neither the 650 or 450 Clymer book gives a spec for the speedo cable screws.
The only torque given in that area is for the axle nut/bolt and the ones holding the brake caliper.

So that means you tighten them just enough, but not too much...  ;-)

Subject: [honda_nighthawk] Speedo gear hub

Hi, all-

I thought the speedo cable on my '82 750 Nighthawk was broken, but, as it turns out, the speedo gear hub is not working.

Can anyone shoot me the torque specs for the bolts on this item?

Much appreciated-

-lynn g.-

Hey Lynn. How Did you determine the speedo gear hub wasn`t working? I pulled the cable from the speedo and then spun the tire to see if the cable end was...

Hi, Dana- I did the exact same test, but the cable wasn't turning and wasn't broken, so it has to be the gear mechanism. Ya' reckon? Let me know if you have a...

Hi Lynn, Your logic is impeccable. Well, at least it's consistent with what happened with my '85 650 - no speedo, no cable movement - turned out to be a...

Hi, Koda- Good to know. I haven't had any luck locating one. One of the guys at the local shop said (in rare cases) they can actually be repaired. Please...
