I was lucky enough to be able to attend the British International
Motor Show this year, and thought a brief report might interest some
group members.
This was the first one to have a greener motoring pavilion (sponsored
by my insurers, Co-operative Insurance -- thanks, guys!), and that was
my first port of call. After admiring the Tesla, I headed to the Honda
stand in that pavilion. They were showing the IMA Civic, but the
Insight featured heavily in their displays and videos. When I
revealed myself to be an Insight owner, I was royally welcomed, and
introduced to the rest of the Honda team with the comment that Insight
owners are "the guys that made all this possible." Hyperbolic, but
nice to hear. 8-) I was encouraged to keep my Insight as long as I
could, as a valuable, historic, future classic.
I asked about the Insight Mark II, or the car that will replace the
Insight. "You mean the FCZ!" it wasn't in the Greener Motoring
Pavilion, but on Honda's stand in the main show.
I lingered at Greener Motoring, admiring hybrid and electric cars
(Morgan and Lightning among others), then headed to Honda's main
stand. Stylistic inheritance from the Insight was immediately evident
when I looked at the FCZ, which, I learned, is expected to sell for
£15,000 GBP at launch in a year or two. That's $30k USD.
I won't bore you with the rest of my "What I did at the Motor Show"
narrative, but it was a fun night out. I got home at 2:15am after
encountering night works on the motorways; it was worth it.
In case anyone might be interested, I've put online some photos I took
at the show. http://martin.photosleeve.org/v/misc/mshow08/
