I believe the 2nd gen is similar, but I haven't taken it apart. It's ok, I'm
used to the proceedure to get a new IMA battery. My Insight needed one at 42K
and I had another Insight I bought to sell with around 100K that also threw the
IMA code (conveniently after sitting in the sun for a week at the airport). I
think I kind of pissed off the service tech when I came in and told him the code
and what the car needed per the exact service bulletin. He put a note on there
saying something "customer says he's here for a new battery". In the end it got
a new battery with little questions asked.

HCHs (at least the gen 1s 2003-2005) use a single fan to cool the
battery and the IPU. On top of that, the fan sucks down through a
nearly vertical stack of batteries, while an Insight has a dedicated
battery fan that sucks sideways through the horizontal pack.
I have seen a number of southern cars with batteries that are
extremely weak and it's always the upper center ones that are the worst.
The best thing you can do is to blast the ac and go easy on the
throttle until the car cools down.
