Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I have an older ACE 100
Engine that has broken teeth on the countershaft sprocket - trying to
get the sprocket off, but have some questions - which way does it
turn - is it normal thread or reversed?

Also, how do I keep the shaft from spinning? I don't have a chain on
the bike yet so I am kind of bewildered :-).
