The Giro d'California is a retrospective tribute to the Giro d'Italia Motociclistico (a.k.a. Motogiro), Italy's premier long distance motorcycle road race of the 1950's. The Giro d'California celebrates the machines and riders from the golden era of the Motogiro, 1953-57.
The Giro d'California is a touring and regularity event for 1957 and older motorcycles up to 175cc. Giro d'California V is slated for October 4-7, 2009.
How entries will be prioritized for acceptance:
1) Pre-1958 motorcycles up to 175cc engine displacement.
2) Post-1957 machines with a clear "like design" lineage to machines from category #1 that are visually evocative of the Giro era, i.e. the major components and the styling are fundamentally similar.
3) Italian machines that did not begin production until after 1957, but are visually evocative of Giro era bikes will be granted "provisional eligibility." Machines that fall into this category are Gilera Giubileo and derivatives, Benelli 175 Sport, Moto Guzzi Stornello, Benelli Nuovo Leoncino and derivatives, etc. These bikes all came into production within a few years of the last Motogiro and other than newer design engine are similar to pre-1958 machines.
If you're looking to acquire a bike specifically to participate in the Giro d'California a 1957 or earlier machine is recommended as there's no question about it's eligibility.
