Arjun,

First of all thanks for the advice.
This is the first time I'm doing the Leh drive. But I've heard people doing it in Matiz of all cars, so should be able to do it in Getz as well. But there is always an unknown quantity which should make the trip exciting.

Well for the torque 2 suggestions or write up I've read are

Get vehicle tuned for more torque than for max speed
Air-fuel mixture should be made lean by 1/4th turn of the screw to adjust to thin air.

Let me know if you have any thing else in your mind.

Shivaram

Are you sure you'll be able to navigate through to Leh in a Getz? Have you done this before? I was thinking of doing Leh this summer as well, but looking up sites, I learnt you really need a 4WD with a lot of torque and high ground clearance to do the trip.

The Getz suddenly experiences drops in power on high altitudes when the air thins down, and Leh is known for thin-air. I am not discouraging, but just adding a word of caution. Let me know, I am in two minds - either wait until I have extra cash to afford an extra Gypsy King, or if my new Santro (ERLX) which vommits out torque in city drives would be enough.

Nice to hear about the Leh trip on your Getz.I've been thinking of this
for sometime but have'nt done it.Anyways,I've enquired with a few
people in Delhi & they say that they've seen quite a few Getz doing Leh
without any hitches & that too on stock vehicles. So,go ahead & have

1. Use regular fuel - not SPEED, XTRA PREMIUM or the likes.
2. Shift into third gear by 25 km/h, 4th gear by 35 km/h and 5th gear by 50 km/h
3. Do not floor the accelerator if you feel less power under the foot - instead shift down but do not zoom - the getz has its punch in the higher revs, but that really drinks up fuel.
4. If you're stuck in traffic most of the time, fuel economy is bound to be low.

Hope this helps

Shyam:
When I transitioned from 800 to Getz that was my complaint as well. So I did a detailed study of the drivers manual. Check the speeds at which you change the gears -1st to 2nd especially. Do it at the prescribed speed ranges only.

I dont have a pick up complaint on the Getz anymore though your observation that the AC does slow it is correct.

Hi
I have faced the same problem 3 to 4 times. The
reason for that is the air in take filter is getting
clogged . So once you clean the same , try to ride on
recirculation mode only except at regular interval or
whenever fresh air intake is required .

The air filter sits inside the engine compartment and
the accessibility is via the glove box .

Balaji,

I've been driving a Getz for over 20 months now & have done 34000
km.I've constantly got 11-11.5kmpl in city & 13.5-14 on the highway
(this is with AC most of the times& reaching speeds of 120kmph on
the highway).I check my FC everytime I fill gas.I suggest you check
your FC in the following manner, many times before coming to a
conclusion.

1.Fill up your tank till the auto cutoff mechanism in the pump stops
the filler.
2.Reset your trip meter to zero.
3.After you have used up 3/4 of the fuel, fill up the tank till the
auto cutoff works in.
4.Check your trip meter....the number of kms divided by the number
of litres of petrol filled will give your FC.
5.Do this atleast 3 times, once when you have used up half the
fuel, once when you have almost touched empty etc.

Make sure you fill up at the same petrol station.

Let me know if it still returns 6-8kmpl.

Chandan.

Recently i bought Getz 1.3

5 days before taking the delivery, i was offered a small drive (same
vehicle). I had noticed it was showing 24 km running.

To my surprise, it was reading 146 kms at the time of delivery. I think
the staff used my vehicle. I took the vehicle after much resistance. I
even spoke to the ceo of the dealer on this and refused to take the
delivery. However the personally assured and requested me to take the
vehicle and promised to look into the matter. I have taken the delivery
note with reading mentioned in it.

Now i am thinking of taking this matter with Hyundai authorities. Will
it be of any help. Pl suggest

Hi Friends,

I would recommend not going for NEO... I have Chrome NEOs.
The plating of the alloys started chipping off in just 4/5 months.. I showed it to the Manufacturer..  He promised me to re-chrome the NEOs and now after 8 months of his promise he says he need to see if he can re-chrome them or not... And also suggesting I get new wheels...

This is a personal experience...  If u are looking for Indian Alloys go got Aura from Hindalco.. Its an ISO certified company

Warm Regards

It is possible to find alloys of the same size - but there would be no driving advantage with such a size. Also, will be very difficult to find and if you find the size, you may not like the design

The steel rim which came by default is of size: 13 x 5. Can I get a
alloy of this size exactly? I checked (In Bangalore) league and HR
alloys, but the rim width I get in those are of minimum 5.5 inch!

Auro has, But I want to go for league.

Please suggest!

Getz diesel will be out this year. Hyundai diesel engines are pretty good.

I love the getz.

The Swift and the Getz are completely different cars as far as the need perspective is concerned.

If you are planning on a city car, and want to drive yourself, then the Swift would be a better bet, but if you like being chauffered around, and would sit at the back, then the Getz is a safer option.

However, as far as ease of driving is concerned, both cars offer comparable performance in terms of pick up and fuel economy. The Getz definitely is more refined, silent and feels like a big car, offering better value in terms of space, braking capacity and high-speed stability (owing to a longer wheelbase). The Swift on the other hand is slightly more peppy, sportier, and though seats are more comfortable, they do not offer the same space as the Getz.

As far as the choice of the diesel Swift is concerned, it would definitely be cost effective to each penny spent on fuel, but if 10 kmpl on petrol is good for you, I would stick to the choice of a petrol car. Petrol cars are simply easier to drive and maintain which is what I live by. Diesels with automatic transmissions are good to drive, and are a definite 'yes' but I don't suppose the option is available on the Swift or any of the other smaller cars in its segment.

Lastly, it is a good idea to try both the cars at a dealership. With the Getz, expect the car to be slightly less fun after the first drive (I guess the big car feeling takes over after you drive it in heavy traffic and the car is certainly very smooth) while with the Swift, you can expect it to be peppier after the purchase (the engine seems to be happier and more responsive on higher revs).

Also remember, the Getz is a larger car, and is less maneouverable than the Swift. I do not know which city you plan to use the car in, and if you have parking hassles. But do plan accordingly.

Arjun
