Hi,
I bought Hyundai Getz GLS in October 2005.
In last 1.5 years I have driven only 8000 Kms and driven only for 6 months as I was in US or using bike rest of the time.
Yesterday when I took car back from 4th service from Hyundai service station, service person told me that exhaust is perforated, has leakage and completely rusted.
It will cost Rs 6000 for replacement.
I have discussed with all my friends and they say they are using cars for last 4-5 years and have never faced any problem of exhaust getting rusted whether its Hyundai or Maruti or Scorpio.
I think as common practice, service people have obliged someone and given my car exhaust to someone else and now asking me to pay for replacing the rusted exhaust that they have put in my car.
Please advice how shall I take this forward and complain to whom?
Regards,
Manish

Hi guys
Thanks for all the lovely feedback. Makes me so positive to think of doing this trip to Leh. Will let you all know when I am all set.
One of my uncles is the adventurous types, and he's done the trip many times. He drives to Rohtang atleast twice a year, and about once every two-three years to Leh. He's done the trip he says in Ambassadors, Mahindra Jeeps, Gypsy and nowadays he's using a Nissan X-Trail, which is perhaps lovely on the slopes.
Though he does add a word of caution for me - says you have to be very careful around the spin bends which are very steep, and have utmost control over the car. He's recommended that one should have a local driver, who's adept at handling the vehicle under adverse circumstances. In my words, be confident, but keep a very diligent watch.
Some regular points:
1. Passengers should never sleep in the front seat next to the driver. Rather keep talking to the driver about the road/surroundings and maintain the alertness.
2. Always take due rest in the middle of the journey - every 100 kilometers on plain roads, and 50 kms on mountain roads, do stop for 5 minutes and stretch your legs, relieve yourself of the stress.
3. Higher altitudes lead to lower atmospheric pressure. It is good to release some air from the tyres while climbing. I would suggest one shouldn't keep air pressure higher than 27 psi on mountain roads with the Getz.
4. If you're using tubeless tyres, undoubtedly which are better, never put in tubes in the tyres - they cause friction, and are at very high risk to tyre blasts.
Lastly, those who're planning to take the Getz, please keep an eye on the fuel situation. There's no doubt that the Getz is thirstier on fuel as compared to a Santro, so just keep a watch. I've experienced a dip in fuel economy on mountain roads, and the Getz suddenly feels a little sluggish when the air gets thin at high altitude, so be prepared.

So yes getz would do that ride just fine.
