Hi James: I agree that the reason you cite is probably the reason they add the 9/10 of a cent. But I don't know of any other industry for whom the currency is...
Air conditioners are heat pumps. People call it a heat pump when the AC is in reverse. A standard house AC is 400-500% efficient in heat/cool generated vs...

... One of the criticisms that you used to hear about this or that advanced-battery NiMH vehicle in the California program is which of them had decent cooling...
The special thing about the Prius's air conditioner is that it has an electric compressor, rather than the belt-driven compressor that is more common in cars....

I guess my understanding is that a heat pump has 2 cycles, a cooling cycle and a heating cycle when the cooling cycle is reversed. I'm not aware of any...
Wouldn't a resistive electric heater be considered 100% efficient? Follow me on this one... What is the one waste product from an electric device? Heat,...

Basically, I do the same thing as you in that I only heat about half my house. I use a 6,300 BTU window unit heat pump from Freidrich to heat about 850 sq ft....
You are right, resistive electic heat is 100% efficient, but heat pump heat is 300%-700% efficient, in that you can get 3-7 times the BTUs from the heat pump...
All this talk about global warming and increasing levels of CO2 got me thinking, where's it all coming from, and I don't mean the carbon part. Please give me...
