Built from 1979 thru the early 80s, this car by David Edmonson was a unique part of our auto heritage.

A few over 700 of these single seater cars were built by HMV. They also licensed production to builders in CA and FL. We suspect the FL plant may have produced a convertible model, but we have little information on these plants. HMV (High Mileage Vehicles) produced the Free-way with mileage in mind.

They could be purchased with a choice of gas, a diesel, or electric propulsion. In ICE, 12 to 18HP models were available. The diesel option was installed in a single vehicle.

My former electric car had an odd history. Its S/N was 1000, the first production vehicle. It was recalled and the new car assumed the old identity. The original #1000 was then built into the diesel model. In later years, the car was donated to Stanford, where it helped in developing EV technology. In later years its drive was modernized. It currently resides in Charlie's museum back east.
