1st: No factory Probe LX had TestaRossa style strakes down the side.
2nd: You need to replace plastic bushings for the shifter. There are two
sets; one at the bottom of the shift lever and one where the shift rod meets
the transmission. Most likely they are just old but they will deteriorate
quicker if you have an oil leak. I have a 3.0 mtx myself and it leaks quite
a bit down there. I'm in need of my second set of bushings in less than five
years. Buy them at your local Mazda dealer (trust me on this. Ford dealers
stink). They will have to order them since the car is pretty old but they
should be able to still get them. IIRC shifter bushings are all the same
from '89-'92 for all model Probe/MX-6 mtx. The fix is an easy, less than 30
minute, installation from jacking to dropping.
