Hello That wire you speak of is a fuseable link. I put a inline spade type fuse holder with a 30 amp spade type circuit breaker in place of the fuseable link....

Laura, The fusable link can be replaced fairly easily, but not available everywhere. I would consider an inline fuse in its place. Also a little common sense...
