List,
Just a quick note to let you know about our upcoming adventure to Baja.
We'll be down there for 10 days riding Northern Baja and spectating the
SCORE Baja 1000 Off-Road Race.
Check out the itinerary below. If you're going to be somewhere at the same
time as us please drop me a line and let me know so that we can meet &
greet, shake hands and say "Hi!".
ITENERARY:
Friday:
* Travel to Santa Veronica. Dinner and hotel at Hacienda Santa
Veronica.
Saturday:
* Ride to San Felipe. Easy ride and a long day, covering some of the
race course. Lunch and gas in San Matias then on to San Felipe. Total ride
miles: approx. 120.
Sunday:
* Ride to Gonzaga Bay. Easy ride and another long day. Lunch at the
"Cow Patty" in Puertecitos. Dinner and hotel at Alphonsina's in Gonzaga Bay.
Approx 95 miles.
Monday:
* Ride to Bay of LA. Bit more challenging ride and the scenery is
beautiful! Canyons and very remote back country area. Dinner and hotel in
Bay of LA. Approx. 80. miles
Tuesday
* Drive back up to Ensenada. Fish tacos for diner and hotel on the
strip where all the action is.
Wednesday
* Tech inspection and contingency row for 2006 SCORE Baja 1000
Off-Road race. See all the cars and meet all the racers. Carnival
atmosphere all day long in and around convention center on the waterfront in
Ensenada. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!
Thursday
* RACE DAY! Get up early to watch bikes, ATV's Trophy Trucks Buggies,
Jeeps and all the rest leave the comforts of civilization and hurl
themselves into the unforgiving and hostile desert of Baja for a 1000 + mile
odyssey to La Paz. Many of them will never make it there. Be there and see
where it all begins! After the race starts we load up and head out to Ojos
Negros to watch our favorite racers cross the highway and continue into the
desert. Most racers are by in the afternoon then we head on to Mike's for
dinner and to spend the night. Not much riding this day. Maybe unload the
bikes for the 17 mile dirt road into Mike's.
Friday
* Ride the Observatory Loop from Mike's. Full days ride in the back
country of Baja. Lunch at Melling Ranch then on to the National Park and a
visit to the highest point in Baja (over 10k feet!) at the observatory.
Return to Mike's for some more of Blanca's good cooking and a soft bed.
Total ride miles: 50
Saturday
* Heading to Santa Veronica, out the way we came in. Easy trail and a
long ride but we are used to it by now. Spend the night at the hacienda in
Santa Veronica. Total ride miles approx. 80.
Sunday
* Return home. What can I say about this? Reality has to set in at
some point.
