Howdy,

Lead Acid or Lithium? It's your choice. You may remember Brian
Howell, our fast-talking builder of fast-riding electric bikes that go
well beyond the speed of his competition. Brian called to tell me he
won't be at our EAA international meeting on Saturday because he'll be
at the Penninsula Home and Garden Show all weekend displaying his
electric bikes.

Brian offers a wide range of personal transportation for commuting or
just for fun. In addition to bikes, he is expanding into enclosed
vehicles like the Myers Motors NMG (formerly known as the Sparrow).
Recent developments on the NMG include a lithium battery option for
100+ mile range and a new 2 passenger model. Brian's website is:
www.electric-bikes.com

His home page shows the NMG along with his other products and has a
link to the home & garden show website.

The theme of the show this year is "Going Green in 2007" and that
applies to more than just plants in your back yard. The show will
focus on energy conservation and solar energy as well as the standard
home improvement ideas. They even offer (small) battery recycling (not
car batteries, though). You can avoid waiting in line for tickets by
ordering online at:

www.peninsulahomeshow.com. Regular tickets are $10 with a half price
deal after 5 PM on Friday only. If you get your tickets online you
will need to have a printer ready and your credit card will be billed
immediately. See the above web site for show times, exhibitor list,
etc. The location is:

San Mateo Expo Center
2495 So. Delaware Street, San Mateo, Ca, 94403
650-574-3247
www.sanmateoexpo.org

Note: On site parking is $7.
(Local street parking is limited and a very long walk).

Adios,

Hi Lou,

This is an all day EVent on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
Saturday March 10th - starts at 9 AM, ends at 3 PM, but folks will probably
linger longer.
I think you will get a lunch if you pre-register.

I just received an update with more info from John Connors - I will copy and
paste it below.
He is the one organizing the EVent and I'm impressed with his ability to line up
some great speakers.

The EAA was invited to attend and bring EVs for display. We are trying to
coordinate our efforts with the EAA group in the Santa Cruz area - they are
officially known as the Central Coast EAA chapter.

The email from John had an attachment (map).
I will try to put it in our Yahoo group in the files section - wish me luck...

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Adios,

Jerry

Hello everyone,
The website and registration is now up for this event. Please feel
free to invite those who may be interested in attending. We are asking
that attendees register so we have an accurate head count for lunch and
such. We obviously know you are all coming, but please register as well
so we can get your lunch preference. Also, I have attached a special
map for participants. Note the location of EV parking as well trailer
parking. If you are bring a trailer, do NOT try to go into the parking
structure or EV parking area (not trailer friendly). The remote lot
should be adequate for trailer parking and vehicles can be moved from there.

Hi fellow eaasv members,

Allow me first to thank all of you for the knowledge and inspiration that you have shared with me. The hard work especially in holding those meetings and trying to educate people to find ways to save our environment were tremendous. It makes me proud to be a new member of this organization.

Now I have to do my share. I am in the process of building my first Electric Car. I have been doing my research for several months already. My next goal is to be able to determine the exact conversion type that I want. The only way I can do that is to test drive as many Electric Vehicle in a one month time frame before I start ordering parts. This will really help me speed up my project. I am in a very tight budget so I need to do it right the first time or at least minimize costly mistakes.

Please help me by letting me test drive your EV.

I am available on weekends and morning during weekdays.

My Information:

I don't mind driving 60-70 mile distance from my home to have the privilege to meet you.

Tango #2 (the first NiMH Tango, powered by Nilar) will likely be there.

BTW, I would highly recommend to anybody, coming to the Maker Faire.  It's a lot like the San Francisco Exploratorium, except everything is hands-on, there's lots of stuff to work on, there's lots of stuff to buy and take home and work on with your kids, and there's lots of stuff to get your mind going in new directions.

Here's a photo of my daughter and I, at a booth showing off high-speed photography triggered by the sound of a balloon popping:

Howdy,

Last year Kim Rogers and I provided a RAV 4 EV pace car (and also one to bring up the rear) for this foot race in Palo Alto.
This year Kim can't make it, so we could use an additional EV - a RAV 4 EV is preferred but it could be something else.

The EVent is this Saturday and will go from about 8 AM till around noon.
We plan to have an EAA information table at the school staffed by our treasurer JoAnne Sarro.

Also - it may be raining so keep that in mind.  I believe the EVent will be held rain or shine.

Please contact me if you can help out with this school fundraiser.
(location is near Gunn High School but the fund raiser is for a grammar school).

Here's a link to the EVent website:

If you look closely you can find links to the course map and also the monitor map.
(We will use the monitor map to keep in touch with the course monitors, local police, etc.)
Last year an amateur radio group was there also providing support for the race.

Does the EAA have something planned for the Make Magazine Maker Faire in May? (details below) This would be an excellent opportunity for publicity. Any conversion or home built EV owners out there want to show off their creations? Something to discuss for the next meeting.

using the link described below or you can come show us your work at
a Maker Faire "audition" on Saturday, February 24 at TechShop in
Menlo Park, CA.
Proposals
We invite proposals for Maker workbench exhibits, workshops,
presentations and performances for the Maker Faire. We are interested
in proposals from individuals as well as from groups such as hobbyist
clubs and schools.
Maker Workbench: Our standard setup for Makers is a six-foot long
workbench. You can use this workbench to display your work and/or
demonstrate how you make something. Some makers don't need
workbenches, typically because they have a large object or they set
up outside. Please provide a short description of what you make and
what you will bring to Maker Faire. Please link to photographs or
videos of what you make. Let us know about any requirements you have,
such as electricity, Internet, ventilation, etc.
Interactive Performance: We're seeking performances that will engage
and entertain the attendees and enable them to interact in a fun way.
The performances may be tied to a stage or roving through the
fairgrounds as a kind of street theatre. Performances could be
musical or theatrical, but they could also be a collaborative
building process. For example, you might work with attendees to put
something large together in an hour.
Presentation: These includes audio-visual presentations intended for
showing a project (or process) that cannot be brought to the faire,
or a special project that requires AV resources. These presentations
are limited to 20 minutes. Please describe the topic of your
presentation and what kind of media (audio/video) that you will
have. As a general rule, PowerPoint presentations are not
appropriate for this event unless they are unusually entertaining.
Demonstration Workshop: A demonstration workshop is a show-and-tell
session on how to make something. We're looking for makers who can
demonstrate (and teach) particular skills, techniques or processes.
You should start off by explaining your materials and tools and then
step-through a build process, sharing your knowledge and interacting
with the audience. Sessions should be under 30 minutes in length and
may be repeated on the program. Please describe the subject of your
workshop and what kind of setup you need for it.
Application Form: Please go to the following URL and fill it out
to apply for participation as a maker.
http://makerfaire.com/bayarea/2007/proposal/
All proposals will be reviewed and we will notify makers of acceptance
via email by March 19, 2007.

NOTE: Makers whose are accepted will receive free registration to Maker Faire,
however we cannot pay for travel and accommodations.
If you have any questions about participating in Maker Faire, please
contact Natalie Villalobos by email:
info@makerfaire.com. Please let
Natalie know if you plan to come to the audition at TechShop.

I don't know what the thing looks like, but he said it's broken down

Does the EAA have something planned for the Make Magazine Maker Faire in May? (details below) This would be an excellent opportunity for publicity. Any conversion or home built EV owners out there want to show off their creations? Something to discuss for the next meeting.

Hi,
Maybe they are thinking that they'd buy one, but not enough other people
would to make it commercially viable so GM should not try?
Or maybe they buy one but someone else show make it?

I am worried that one or more people voted a lot of times and may be
sabotaging the tallies. If I were at GM, I would give
the results less credibility it they did not make sense.

Again, did I understand the tellies right?

After some inquiries and a vote at the December meeting, this email

Howdy,

We have a special treat this month. The Silicon Valley chapter of the
Electric Auto Association will meet on Saturday Dec. 16th at 10 AM in
the HP Auditorium on the corner of Page Mill Road and Hanover in Palo
Alto. See our website for a map and more details:
http://www.eaasv.org/meetings.html

At our meeting this month, Bill Dube will be on hand to give us a
presentation on his record setting electric KillaCycle. This
motorcycle has been clocked at the Drag Strip reaching speeds over 150
MPH in just over 9 seconds. The bike has been rebuilt since the
photos that are shown on his website (www.killacycle.com) and is now
black instead of white.

More significantly, he is now sponsored by A123 lithium batteries
instead of the former Bolder batteries described on the website.
These batteries are so powerful that they burned up one of the two
motors at a drag race in Las Vegas during the summer. There is a link
to a video of that race below where you can see the fireworks.

Bill has also been an advisor to a company called Hybrids Plus that
has been working on a plug-in Prius. He has agreed to tell us about
that project if the audience shows sufficient interest. Here is a
link to their website:
http://hybrids-plus.com/

Bill invites everyone to see a short video of his motorcycle at the
following YouTube link. YouTube ranks video clips based on how many
people view them, so encourage others to watch this to improve the
rankings. Internet video is slow to load, but replaying it goes much
faster. Bill will bring a higher quality video clip to the meeting
for showing on the big screen.

Refreshments will be served at the meeting. You don't need to be a
member to attend, however you are encouraged to join our association.
Instructions for joining the EAA are available at:

http://www.eaaev.org/eaamembership.html

SPECIAL NOTE: Bill will be staying at a hotel in San Francisco. If
anyone is available to give him a ride to the meeting and back
(preferrably in an EV) please let me know. Otherwise he'll take the
train and I can pick him up in Palo Alto.

Adios,

Jerry Pohorsky

Howdy,

The Silicon Valley chapter of the Electric Auto Association will meet
this Saturday at 10 AM in the HP Auditorium on the corner of Page Mill
Road and Hanover in Palo Alto. See our website for a map and more
details:

http://www.eaasv.org/meetings.html

At our meeting this month, representatives from GreenEmotors will be
on hand to conduct an informal forum to find out what kind of electric
vehicles our members and guests would like to see and buy in the near
future.

They are planning a trip to Taiwan and mainland China to visit with
manufacturers and see what new Electric Vehicle products are
available. Our input will help them pick and choose which vehicles to
import. They already sell and service affordable 2 passenger scooters
that were on display at our recent EV Rally and show, but they are not
just a scooter supplier. If you want an enclosed electric vehicle
that can go on the freeway, here's your chance to come and let them
know. Few of us can afford a Tango or Tesla roadster, but there are
other options being developed in Asia that will soon hit our
shores and you can come and help determine which ones make it.

After the meeting, Brian Howell will be there with his new Myers NMG
(Sparrow). Brian has developed a relationship with some Lithium
battery suppliers and is working on boosting the range of this 1
passenger enclosed 3 wheeler to over 100 miles per charge. Brian was
also a vendor at our recent Rally and Show and offers a line of custom
electric recumbant bikes - some with Lithium batteries.

You don't need to be a member to attend, however you are encouraged to
join our association.
Instructions for joining the EAA are available at:

http://www.eaaev.org/eaamembership.html

Refreshments will be served and we will have information about getting
DVD copies of the recent movie:
"Who Killed the Electric Car?" in time for Thanksgiving.

Adios,
