Hey Duane,

Nice to hear from you. Richard and I have been spending most
weekends at the lake. We have a trailer at Pine Flat Lake near
Fresno.

Needed to ride so bad two weeks ago we took the bikes into the river
bed near Piru and played for several hours. We are discussing a
Fathers Day trip to Hungry Valley. Let us know if you are going.
Maybe we can meet up for a ride. Hope everyone is well.

It's been a while since any one has posted and I see we have some new
members. Welcome.

So what is every one doing for the summer.

I just got back from Lucern Valley.
We watched a race put on by RUTS. It was pretty fun.

Will be going to Gorman next weekend.

Talk to you soon.

I talked today with Mike. We will do a more
detailed message about FoDD as soon as we cleared some
stuff. Look at this as a pre information …<br><br>We had
the Friends of Dumont Dunes meeting this last
Saturday at Dumont. Unfortunately Mike Ahrens (BLM
Barstow, a real great pleasure to meet him) and crew were
busy with the TURDS that were making Dumont a less fun
place, but we got to spend an hour with MikeA Discussing
some issues.<br><br>BOD Friends of Dumont Dunes:
<br><br>Co-Pres - Mike Neschke & Ed Waldheim<br>Co-V Pres -
Thomas & Stephan Frei <br>Co- Treas - Richard & Marion
Janzen <br>Sec. - unappointed <br><br><br>Enforcement,
we re-assured MikeA that we were pro enforcement.
<br><br>This led to several sub topics, but mainly ended in
the thought of imposing a fee demo program and having
a station on the incoming road to collect fees,
verify annual tags, inspect the vehicle and occupants
(mainly to stop minors in possession of alcohol through
probable cause when looking into a vehicle or bed of a
vehicle. If pc exists, then they can do a full inspection)
This would also allow a pinch point for BLM to corrall
the rowdies. We all agreed a fee demo would be ok, IF
there was a guarantee the funds would stay at Dumont
and that a TRT would be established to determine the
best way for those fees to be handled. Mike was in
agreement.<br><br>MikeN talked with Tim Ried (MikeA’s boss) who stated
"Dumont will not close as long as he is in charge!"
<br><br>Jeff Glover (FlyinBowTie from EBC) was visiting and
brought up some funding ideas to help the BLM pay for the
necessary technology and staffing expense. <br><br>Trash
Clean up, we try to do it together with Escarabajo club
around Easter. Last I heard it looks not so good in the
moment, but still it is our plan. MikeN will also speak
with Jennifer Whyte of Project Sand to see if she can
be involved in some way shape or form.<br><br>Then
the only environmental tread to Dumont. BLM has to do
a survey for the "Fringed Towed Lizard”. At the
east end of the dunes is a possible habitat, but there
are no historical sightings, so it should be not that
big of a problem. <br><br>That should be it for the
moment, as soon as we know more I will let you
know<br><br>Thomas<br><br><a href=http://V8rail.com

Great weather (except for Sunday's wind), Good
Friends, Good FODD meeting, Lots of people, Nice Rails and
Quads, and a LOT OF TRASH.<br>Some idiot left his trash
bags plus 2-5 gal metal race gas cans right across
from the rangers station. I could not belive it! I
thought the people that came to Dumont had more respect
than this. I wish I could have seen them pulling out,
it would have been a pleasure to stop and make them
go back to pick it up.<br>Did any one else see this?
Please, If you see the guy camped next to you leaving
with out cleaning up PLEASE SAY SOMETHING TO STOP
THEM!!!!

It does get crowded, not like glamis though. They do have several vendors and
the LV jeep club sponsors an event that is fun to watch. Have fun.<br><br>Duane

I have only been to dumont twice, both off
weekends. How crowded does it get on prez weekend. It seems
like such a small area, that when it gets crowded, you
would be meeting up with someone every razor you went
over or there would be trffic jams in the bowls.

First, the razors are sharp again. I was out
Saturday/Sunday and Sunday was one of the nicest days I had out
there ever. Weather was just great, clear, no wind,
dunes just absolutely awesome not very much people, but
still some nice groups to go out for runs...<br>I’m
jealous about you guys going next weekend out there and
I’m need to go to Glamis...<br><br>Thomas

First a happy new year to all of you<br><br>And
yes I had already my first Dumont trip in 2002
;-)<br><br>A Dumont report. I had only time for a daytrip New
Years Day. The weather was great and almost all people
already left, so it was not too crowded. Hopefully soon a
storm arrives at Dumont, the dunes are round, not one
razor left and I never saw them like that before …
<br>Thanks to Mike and Rustin I had again fun driving Mikes
Raptor. Also tried out his LT500 and Rustin’s Banshee.
Woooowwww these bikes are fast ;-) We did some nice runs
out to the dune end (we call it racetrack ;) Was
great fun in fantastic weather...<br>We did our
Boss-sundowner routine. There was between finger 1 and the
restroom something going on. The rangers are there with
all there lights, soon the CHP also arrives and then
the helicopter ... third time this season I saw it
out there, but first time he shut the engine ... I
don’t know what happened, but last time I saw the
copter out there with a stopped engine somebody died
(also after new year a couple of years ago)<br> <br>Ok
we are back down to our camp and loading our stuff,
there was another trouble spot. At the mouth to the
comp hill was another accident. For this *only* the
ambulance arrived, so hopefully it was not too serious.
<br>I don’t know what happened on either place, but
what I don’t understand why most accidents I see at
Dumont are in the flats around the camping area
...<br><br>Then I talked a little bit with Mike about FoDD. We
still don’t know a time/place for the first Friends of
Dumont Dunes meeting. But it looks like sometimes closer
to the end of February. We also still try to find a
date for our first cleanup. We still hope it is in
March and hopefully don’t collide with another date. We
know there is the DAC meeting March 9 in Victorville
and a cleanup at Sandmountain NV … Will inform you as
soon as I know more details ...<br><br>Thomas
