Simple answer, and probably true. After 5 days of living in a house
with no heat, he very likely had the beginnings of hypothermia, and
was not mentally alert enough to deal with the complexities of
winterizing a house on the fly.

My sister-in law has tried to do it when it was warm in the house, and
couldn't do it (and she was shown before). There's just a lot of
little things you have to catch.

If the insurance agent was doing his job, he should have called, and
asked if he needed help (and to save his company lots of bucks). They
could have sent out a plumber for a hundred bucks and taken care of
it. It would have been great PR.
