I am new to this group, fairly non-mechanical, but hope someone
out there can help me!
I have 2001 Ram van (2500) that had the front bearings and seals
replaced at 42,500 miles. They went bad and were replaced again at
45,000 miles (no charge). Both times by our local Midas shop who does
most of our vehicle servicing, and has proven to be quite competent
in the past.
At 57,000 miles the right bearing went out again and, and this
time was replaced by a (non-local - we were travelling) Dodge truck
dealer. He said "maybe water was getting into the bearings", but
other than that had no explanation for the continuing problem.
At 59,500 the left bearing went bad, and I had it replaced by our
local Dodge dealer, and had him check the right bearing which he said
was ok. His only explanation for my problem was that "I'm probably
carrying too much weight in it" (I am in the book business, and DO
carry a lot of weight, but that was why I bought this van in the
first place... I had a Chevy 1/2 ton for years and never had any
problem with it)
I am now at 63,000 miles and the right bearing is bad again... the
fourth time in 20,500 miles! I obviously can't keep doing this
forever, and I don't want to give my problems to someone else by
selling it, but I DO need a dependable vehicle...Does anyone have any
other suggestions?
Thanks!
Andy
