Howell Automotive - Honesty not their best policy   Message List

Hello all,

This is just a quick over view of my experience with Howell
automotive. They sell MANY parts for the neons and if you do your
homework and choose wisely you can get quality components.

HOWEVER, do not let the slick, silver tongued, sales people talk you
out of your decision, and if you want your money back, they SHOULD
give it back if they have not delivered what was promised.

Recently I ordered the AFX long header and a Thermal muffler and they
QUICKLY removed the money from my account for it. After a MONTH of
waiting for an item that says "24 hr availability" I started to call
to see when I would get my order. I was told that they would receive
shipment in "TWO WEEKS". Two weeks later I was told "TWO WEEKS". Two
weeks later I called to get my money back and the sales man or whom
ever I talked to told me that just because I had waited almost two
months was "NOT A GOOD REASON" to refund my money. He then offered me
a $400 hood if I was willing to wait longer. I did not NEED a hood
(Least not a fiberglass hood with no power bulge)

Then he told me that they had the PACESETTER cat back and header in
stock and would ship that. I told him the mods I had done to my
engine (most of which, $3500 worth, came from Howell) and he said I
would be better off with the Pacesetter.

HA!!!!! I had the cat back system installed by a proffesional exhaust
shop and what should have been a 45 - 60 minute install became a 3 hr
ordeal! The shop said this system was the biggest piece of crap they
had seen in awhile and promissed that they would never do another
install like this again.

The header is another PIECE of work to be sure. ALL of the ports did
not even match each other let alone the gasket that came with it and
took over 1/2 a day to match up properly. The welds stick out like a
sore thumb and at the collector it is nothing short of a MESS.

Well, to end this tragic story I went to the Howell web sit and wrote
my honest but negative review which somehow was mysteriously deleted
when I went back today. I re-wrote my review and I am sure it will
not be there on my next visit. (But I will keep writing) So this is a
HEADS UP to all of you Neon owners to WATCH OUT for Howell Automotive
and make sure you get what you asked for OR get your money back. I DO
feel like an ASS now that I let some southern cracker talk me out of
a sensible purchase into a POS Pacesetter. DO NOT BUY PACESETTER!!
(They also told me that AFX IS produced by Pacesetter and THAT scares
me too)

Hope you all have better luck and hapy motoring!!
