'd like to grab the power assist assembly out of
a Datsun 210 at a junk yard for my 1200.. I really
doubt it'll fit in next to my clutch slave cylinder
tho.. Anyone done this? I just want easier braking.. ;)

I! I have a A12A engine in my 2dr sedan. GX´s
were never imported in Finland so I can´t find any
info about this engine. If anybody knows anything
about this engine (service information etc.) please
post that info to this page. Or straight to me. Thanks
in advance,

Mikko

140y from what I undersatnd, is a Datsun Violet
shaped model which came out with the A14 engine rather
than the more popular L series 1600 OHC. It also had a
solid diff rather than the independant setup in the
160J

Cheers,
GTX1200

avo, you're not quite right with your info. In
addition to the 2 5 speed dogleg type gear boxes that you
mentioned there is another!!....it has the same dogleg type
shift pattern but has an overdriven 5th gear. It comes
out I think in the Datsun 140y model. It is
considerably stronger than the 2 that you are talking about
but the ratios are not as good. Hope this is of some
help.

Cheers,
Bob

ey Andrew, its Scott. Well davo to rest of you.
There are 2 types of 5 speed. Both with the reverse
were 1st should be, but ratios are very different. All
5 speeds have a 5th as 1:1. Option 1 gearbox was
intended for road use (i guess because of the ratios) and
the other for circuit use because of the high ratio
for 1st gear (2.676:1-option2, 3.757:1-option1) and
close ratios to the 1:1 5th gear. I have a option 1 i
think as i havent installed it yet. (i do too many
burnouts and dont wanna ruin it, there bloody
expensive)

Davo

he 5 speed transmission you mention is from a
77-78 B210 (120Y). I have one in my 1200 coupe, it's
easy to get in if your 1200 was originally an
automatic with a wider transmission tunnel. Use the auto
tranny mount and make an adapter plate that will move
the mounts to the right spot.

he subaru diff you mention is found here in
the
US on the XT models. It is an 3.70:1 R160 by Fuji
heavy industries and is the same as the OE diff
in
the datsun 510 (1600) also made by fuji
heavy.
This of course is an independant rear end and
adaptation to a 1200 would be a nightmare...

centre that will fit straight into a 1600 diff. You may
want to pursue that - check out some of the Datsun
1600 web sites for more
info.

Cheers,
Martin.

ello fellow 1200 lovers. I have a 1200 with a
worked A15. Standard box, clutch. The diff is from a
1600 wagon. I want a better ratio and i think the
center is on the way out anyway. Any one know of any
solutions for another diff center?

Scott (davo)

will get the work shop manual from my brother,
has all the info on the A12A, plus a section on the
SU carbs. What I will do is scan it on and email it
to you in PDF format. You will have to wait for
January though, going on vacation now.

My
experience with the SU's are once they seen better days you
waste your time and money overhauling them, I replaced
it with a Weber 36 DCD and the downdraught intake
manifold from a A15 engine.

will be the site that will be updated at a regular
basis.

I'v sold my Coupe (miss it madly!), but will shortly
aquire a Nissan 1400 Ute (bakkie). I removed my A15
motor from the Coupe before I sold it, busy prepping it
for the coming Ute...

Regards all, going on

hanks for the invite pf...this club is a great
idea and I hope that we can all learn a bit more from
each other. Datsun 1200's are still very popular here
in New Zealand and still make very competitive
Rally/Club cars. I look forward to meeting you
all.
Regards, Bob.
