Need Help - 04 Civic Hybrid CVT - sounds like baseball cards in bicy   Message List

Hi All
I have a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid 240,000 +/-. It's been a great little car
except for the CVT which has given me headaches since day one. Even when brand
new it would make a thunking sound when starting from a red light (especially on
any incline). Almost feels like a loose u joint.
I've learned to live with that quirk - I change CVT fluid every time I change
oil (20 - 25k (Amsoil Oil & filters))& do frequent CVT fluid flushes. I also
drive very gingerly, which also helps my mileage.

2 weeks ago the tranny started to make a faint noise that now sounds like
baseball cards in bicycle spokes. I took it to a local tranny guy and he doesn't
want to touch it because of CVT. It shifts up and down smoothly - it's just
getting noisy as hell, and very worrisome.

PS I hate the dealers.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks
M
