I have a J-tool that I bought off eBay to set up my clutch after I installed the
firewall reinforcement and NOS cable. It cost a whole $14.00. But what I found
was that it still didn't quite feel right (engaged a bit too late for my taste).
I set it exactly as recommended with the J-tool, and then used another full turn
on the ball stud to take up the freeplay, thne measured the result at the pedal.
I got about 0.75" freeplay and have been happy with the feel. You could do the
same thing without the J-tool, but I did find it mad it easer to set a
"baseline" and then adjust from there.

done by using a measuring block. That is why I made the block of wood once long
ago--to achieve the factory recommended clearance. As I further recall, this
procedure and the dimension needed, is in the factory manual. So, if you want to
be exact, that is how to do it. IIRC. But it has been a very long time.
