REPLACE THE camshaft also. Never install new lifters on an old camshaft. soak the lifters in engine oil and depress the plunger a few times to help bleed air...

There is nothing about a camshaft that would cause a lifter to fail. Internal wear from dirty oil, foreign object damage, corrosion are the main culprits....
