Re: [Cadillac] Crank Position Sensors

That's about right for the over the counter price for those
sensors.

I just replaced a pair of them today, along with a cam position
sensor.

They're not easy to replace.  They're on the front of the block
behind the exhaust manifold, and above the engine mount.

I do this professionally, and it took me over an hour.  The
Mitchel labor guide shows the pair can be replace in 1.5 hours.

Just pay the money.   Unless you're super flexible and double
jointed, you probably can't change them yourself.

I put the car up on a rack, and removed the lower bumper cover
filler panel, and still had a lot of problems getting to them.

Unfortunately, $500-$700 repair prices are common for Cadillac
owners.

My 2002 Deville is not starting like it should. A dealer in Lake
Havasu, AZ told me I needed a pair of crank position sensors. He stated
they always replace them in pairs. They wanted $250 plus parts (another
$150) for the job. I drove on to Amarillo where I presently reside.

Any information on these sensors and how difficult they are to replace
would be appreciated. I found a parts site showing an upper and lower
crank shaft position sensor. The cost was $44.38 and $47.54. I assume
these must be the sensors the mechanic was referring to.

Thanks for your advice.
