Sounds like your choke just needs adjusted.  The colder the ambient temperature is, the tighter the choke spring winds up.  It is requiring a cold day to engage the choke so that you get your fast idle and actual choke (which helps it start up, BAM).  Another possibility is the carb linkage.  You should try to spray all your linkages with wd-40 or equivalent (thin) lubrication oil and make sure they are not sticking, stuck, or binding...All the arms and levers have to work freely in order to allow the choke to operate.  If that doesn't work, then adjust the choke.

Subject: [Chevy Citation's Forever] hard start weather dependent?

Ordinarily, my '84 Citation II V6 takes some extra time to turn over,
runs rough, and the minute I try to put it in gear the engine dies.
If I immediately restart, the problem does not repeat; 2 times seems
to be the charm. I avoid the dying by letting the engine warm up for
several minutes. Then, generally speaking, it doesn't die when I put
it in gear. Driving is often still a struggle though, and there's a
good chance that at some point in the drive, my car won't hold its
idle at an intersection.

Sometimes, like today, my car starts up BAM no problem, the idle
running very very fast. Today it is rainy, wet, and somewhat cold. I
think I've seen this happen on cold, dry days as well, although I
haven't been keeping track of how cold or how many times it has
happened.

For a long time I have believed I have some kind of fuel delivery
problem. I know there's nothing wrong with the tank, the fuel lines,
or the fuel pump, as I've (respectively) taken it apart, blown them
out or cut out obstructions, and done a "does it pump a liter in 10
seconds" test. I've dealt with lots of things over time, leaving the
carburetor as the main event I haven't dealt with yet. Before
rebuilding the carb, I plan to check the spark plugs and the EGR valve
again.

Someone said it could be a problem with the carb's choke thermostat
spring thingy. Do my weather symptoms indicate this?

Cheers,
Brandon Van Every

Hey All,

I spoke with the video company that will be filming at Turkey Rod Run about thier "Club Special" = very good deal, it's a two disc set.  The first disc is two hours of all the custom cars and events over the 4 days of the Rod Run and the second disc is dedicated to the car club with up to an hour of film and driver / owner interviews.  I have reserved and hour slot for us on the Sat from 10-11 am (Nov 28th), so if you can make it for a day - make it on Saturday & lets get your X in the video !!  The only hitch is that we have to have a minimum order before they start to film - this is where I would request some help from the club.. the DVD set is only $15 (cheaper than most new movies), so if you want one let me know so I can add you to the list.  At last count, we're about 3 short.

Right now the Citations that are registered for the show are the Push Me/ Pull Me Citation, D's Twin Turbo X, Jason's Red 85 & my Purple V-8 monster.  We're still waiting for confirmation from Neal, Aaron, Thommo, Tom from Jax, and ????  If your thinking about it, please do it - it's a load of fun !!  If your too far away or have family obligations, I understand - grab the DVD, it may be the only time we get a collection of X-11's together and a cheap video done.

Cheers,

Hey Sly,

It's something you have to do because you enjoy it - others will use/ enjoy
it along the way, but Citation Nation is more about keeping things going
than sprucing it up. I would say most of us on the group are into Citations
because they are good affordable cars & because of that there isn't alot of
fan-fare, outside a few of us yokals doing mods. You have a well done site,
don't give up on it.

Cheers

My site is back on

the 85 X-11 decals on are my site..

the x-11 logo's are the same as the one on the front doors... with the
exception of the chevrolet logo which is on the left..

http://www.chevycitationforever.net/index.jsp?section=decals_logo

I have no problem of hosting my site... it just I don't want the site to be
on for nothing..

Ever since Pierre-Paul wanted to spice things up with a better looking site
when my site was off no one replied except Paul.

It's like no one cares in this Yahoo group.. we have to keep this group
alive..

I bought tons of stuff from ebay such as articles .. repair manuals and more
just to put some information on my site and help others that they were in
need and I gave it all to Paul when I was finished..

Hosting a site is hard work especially when I am ready to put some time an
effort into it.. There is some people that actually join this site because
of my site. I am trying to get as much people that loves the x-cars back
into this site..

two hours of all the custom cars and events over the 4 days of the Rod Run and
the second disc is dedicated to the car club with up to an hour of film and
driver / owner interviews.  I have reserved and hour slot for us on the Sat
from 10-11 am (Nov 28th), so if you can make it for a day - make it on Saturday
& lets get your X in the video !!  The only hitch is that we have to have a
minimum order before they start to film - this is where I would request some
help from the club.. the DVD set is only $15 (cheaper than most new movies), so
if you want one let me know so I can add you to the list.  At last
count, we're about 3 short.

????  If your thinking about it, please do it - it's a load of fun !!  If your
too far away or have family obligations, I understand - grab the DVD, it may be
the only time we get a collection of X-11's together and a cheap video done.

Can anyone tell me if the console in an x-11 is the same whether the car is an auto of 4 speed?

yes it is.  The only difference is the insert that goes around the shifter shaft.

Getting a volunteer group to care about stuff is a difficult dance.  I can only say, from a lot of experience with such things, that you shouldn't give up easily.  And, that you should be willing to do what you do in the absence of praise for long periods of time, because realistically, that's what's going to happen.  Lately I only work on volunteer things that are also meeting my own needs, so that at least if nobody else turns out to be interested, *I've* gotten something out of it.  Or at least, that's the idea.  In practice, I wasted a lot of time this year trying to get the IGDA Indie SIG and Game Design SIG organized with formal government and Constitutions and whatnot.  A lot of crickets chirping, but it hasn't yet been shown to be completely for naught, so I haven't given up yet.

Cheers,
Brandon Van Every
