mate
you wouldn,t be the first to get replacement parts that arent...quite the right
size...for a 40-50 year old bike that has seen a heap of owners and
mechanics...and they have all had a go...
i have had heaps of times...valves way too short....or...way too long...and
before you really stick your foot in it...might do to compare parts with others
or at least pictures and find lengths of ...pushrods, rockers and valves....
good luck...sounds like you are almost there...
you can ask anybody...the closer you are to the finish... the further it gets
away

4mm?? Unless you used 3 or 4 head gaskets something is badly wrong.
Did you strip the engine?
Was the valve gear intact when you did the strip?
If so have SRM sent back to you a different head ie someone elses head??
Have the correct valves been fitted?
What engine is it? Gives the experts here more of a chance to help.

cannot reduce tappet clearance enough. SRM Engineering put two new valves in my
head. Is it likely that they were shorter than my original ones?

tappet screws? (I need about 4 more mm. Sorry, not so good on old English)
