Hey Ron,
Well, without doing any research this is how I would generally check
most any car's fuel sender.
Find the wire/wires coming from it at the tank and hook up an Ohm
meter between it and ground. Record that reading. Now fill the tank (or
empty it) to change the reading and check the ohms again. They should
read different if the unit is working properly.
If the sender is out of the tank then hook the meter between the
wire and the metal or the sender housing (ground). Now actuate the
float and see if the ohms change as you move the float arm up and down.
This might work, But! The reality is: I am new to Jeep ownership
(Just over a year) and I have not actually worked on the gas tank area
yet. I will soon though.
Good luck,
Bill
Hello friends,
After my 82 CJ, sits for 3 or 4 weeks it takes a lot of cranking to get
the fuel to the carb and start. Is the fuel draining back to the tank
through the fuel pump? Or the return line off the filter? What about
the fuel in the float bowl, it seems gone too? If I prime it, it helps
some, but what a hassle (that's just not right!)
I wonder if an electric pump will help or will it run non-stop and
overheat due to the return line? Maybe I can wire it with a manual
switch on the dash and only run it till it gets fuel to the carb and
starts, then shut it off and let the mechanical pump take over. I'm
soooooo confused.
I guess I could just be sure to run it each week to avoid all the above
hassle?
I took my grandaughter on her first Jeep with the doors off ride. She
is nine and has just lost her daddy. She enjoyed the ice cream but the
best part was the dirt roads and hills. Now she hits me up for a Jeep
ride every day after school. Good healing and bonding tool.
Thank for any suggestions,
Bill
Hi all,
I have not torn the dash and guages apart yet but I have a question
before I do. My oil pressure guage did not work after I got the engine
in and running. I swapped the sending unit and it began to work sort
of. When it works it pulses like it is wired through the turn signal
flasher (up to 50, down to 0, up, down). It is an 82 CJ, 258. Any ideas?
Bill,
Good looking out for your son and teaching the boy to drive a
clutch. The AMC Jeep years are some of the best Jeeps. They are also
some of the best vehicles for children to learn to do maintenance
(like oil and other fluids) and other repair work (mechanical and
electrical).
With Yahoo! Groups rules, the SPAM is nearly impossible to prevent.
We can prevent the SPAM account from posting any further messages,
although that does not prevent "them" from joining under a new
name/email address and doing it again.
The email address is most probably not valid or utilized by the
SPAM-er. It is just a newly created email address used to gain
access to forums and groups on the web.
The problem is that some people will actually click on the links.
If that stopped all together, then there would be no incentive for
the people to post those type messages on the web. No one clicking
on the links, would mean that they would be wasting all that time.
Then they would just look for a new annoying way to harvest the
email addresses and personal information.

Hey Jeep friends,
I keep getting junk mail from various sources such as the following
address alexis-sabry839@... trying to get me to go
to another address to get my "free apple mp3 player".
Would it be OK, or bother anyone if I reply with an extremely rude
email telling them to stop using this site as a way to "harvest" email
addresses for their spam? Just thought I'd ask before I do it.
As for Jeep stuff, I can't believe how much fun my 82 CJ7 is to
putt around town or get serious off road with. I even let my 13 year
old son learn how to use a clutch on our last outing. Low range takes
some of the difficulty out of starting off from a dead stop. It was a
great father/son time he may never forget!
Thanks for your time listening to my ramblings,
Bill
Hello, I bought an aftermarket coolant recovery bottle for my 82 CJ7. I
am not sure where it mounts? It looks like it will fit nicely on the
left (drivers side) inner fender well towards the back (sort of below
the master cylinder). Two of the bolt holes on the bottle fit holes in
the fender well. I can't seem to find a picture in my manuals. Thanks.

Hi all,
I am rebuilding my 64 CJ5. Got a new fiberglass tub mounted and I
have run into a problem while re-installing my steering column. I
installed the column and a new 12" steering wheel, but the clearance
from the wheel to the seat is really tight, like 10" or so. When I
set in the gas tank and then a seat on the tank, I just can't fit into
the seat behind the steering wheel. Anyone suggestions? Would it be
possible to use another steering column? Maybe one with a knuckle
joint? Is there such an animal?
Thanks,
John

I've been doing modifications at my own pace on my jeep. I have been

To give you my current situation, I had to cut off the bolts wielded
to the roll cage to remove the dash. They didn't tell me that in the
wiring directions. The gauges and electrical were 28 years old, so
they practically desinigrated when I removed them, they didn't ell me
that in the directions.
So I bought a new aluminum dash and some really cool artic white
gauges and buttons and toggle switches. $800 for the dash and gauges
When I cut out the holes for the gauges, just like the directions
said, the holes cut too large and the gauges fell through… So I
created a plate and use a smaller hole saw then the directions said
and that worked well.
I didn't cut the holes correctly for the heater, washer wiper, vent
and lights, so I had to correct that.
Had to drive around all over to find all the little extras I needed to
complete the dash, although I think the wiring harness is complete,
but I haven't installed it yet.
"You need to pay attention to the knob hole shape before you cut it,
you will see what I mean when you remove the heater control knobs
verses the lighting and wiper knobs."
"The Dremmel can jump around some times and gouge your dash, so be
very careful."
" Make sure you have your measurements correct before cutting holes on
your new dash because there is things behind the dash that can get in
the way of your gauges and control knobs."
So now that the holes are cut and the measurements are done I need to
install my wiring and my dash, can you help me? I'm in Phoenix AZ.
CJ-7 Wiring help please. I'm doing a Cintech wiring harness on my CJ-7
and I would like someone's help who has done this before. So far
nothing has gone as planned, I can only work on it on the weekends, do
to the fact I have to leave my jeep at my friends house across town.
The directions said it would only take 9 hours, on May 14th this will
be the 6 weekend I've worked on the wiring. I live in Phoenix AZ you
can also see what I have currently done on the other messages.
I have a 86 CJ7 5 speed transmission for sale with a Dana 300
transfer case attached to it, is has less than 40,000 miles on it. It
is perfect. If any one wants to buy it, make me a offer you can email
me at casey78@... I'm in Arizona.
I'm in Phoenix Az. I'm fully redoing my 78CJ7. I bought a Cintech
wiring harness and I'm kind of having trouble with. I will continue
the wiring this weekend, but if any one who lives in the phoenix area
who is willing to help me with it, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'll give you money for gas, feed you, and give you free beer, and if
you know what you are doing, money. I bought all new gauges aluminum
dash switches and lights, I have every thing needed, I just don't know
wiring please help me (480)232-1512 Casey casey78@...

I want to see how much emission legal power I can get out of my 258CI.
Inline six with just bolt on parts. I will be doing that this last
weekend in February 2005. Any one who has dealt with these
modifications, any advice would be greatly appreciated, You can e mail
me at casey78@...
Bolt on parts, Bolt on parts "They said it was easy, I'm hoping it is."
I bought the Holley 390 cfm carburetor / the Offenhauser 4 bbl
intake manifold / Holley fuel pump / Pace Setter headers / K&N filter
/ D.U.I. Distributor / Cintech wiring harness / 86 Wide track high
strength axels and lockers / M.O.R.E. spring over, shackle reversal,
lift kit…
I will document these modifications to help any one it can, with
problem foresight. Like I said any advice would be greatly
appreciated. I will list all pros and cons I can find with these "bolt
on parts". I will be doing all of this with no automotive experience,
or back ground. Wish me luck, and If you know what problems to look
out for, let me know.
I will start documenting and posting full results and in the end it
will be dino tested.
With current stock engine problems I have created, and I've tried to
fix, I'm getting 12 miles to the gallon and 84 horse power. I should
be getting 17 miles to the gallon, and 115 horse power, if it ran
properly. "they say to expect 250 horse power with all modifications
and 10% better that stock fuel economy increase, They also said I
might get 300 horse power out of it? They also said it's easy bolt on
parts. I'll let you know.

Hello Group,
I just recently (as of approximately 2 hours ago)
have been given a Willys CJ3A. It was sitting in a
collapsing garage and the Borough of Highspire wanted
it removed. I've made arrangements to have it towed
to my residence on Saturday.
My first Jeep was a 1980 CJ5 purchased in 1986.
I ran it until I lost the exhaust, broke a rear shock
mount and blew up the engine. I eventually sold it
for $1,500.00.
My next Jeep was not purchased until I returned
home from the Gulf War in 1991. It was a 1990 Jeep YJ
Saraha. With all the bells and whistles, it still was
not as fun as my old CJ5. I've been wanting to
restore an older Willys Jeep for years and now I
finally have the opportunity. Got the fire burn'in
again.

Mark Stonbraker
