AMC 290 and 304 heads - HELP!!!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #63 of 117 |
HI!

I have a 1968 290 engine. The problem I have found is that I can't
get exhaust headers for it that fit in a CJ, 290 has square ports.
The 290 wasn't in the CJ, only the cars like the Javelin. Don't want
to special order them. I also have an 81 304, just sitting here. I
know the deck heights are different. I need to know if I can just
trade the heads from a 304 and put it on the 290. I also know that I
need to make sleeves for the head bolts from 1/2 to 7/16. From what
I have found, which is very little, I need to keep the 290 intake.
What I need to know is there anything else that needs changing?? Do I
need to change the Push Tubes? I can't find anything and everyone I
call says they don't know either.

I would appreciate any help!!!

Thanks,

Sally
