Quoting from the "How To Weld Damn Near Anything" book add,
Quote: "The authors will tell you why you should never braze chrome-
moly, or that two of the most common aluminum alloys can't be welded
and what will happen if you try. They will then tell you how to
solve the problem". Anybody got any idea of what they are talking
about?
Guy
I think what they mostly talking about is selling books.(G) I just looked
in a welders handbook and it says not to braze chrome moly "because it has
grains which can open to molten brass and often cracks as a result of
brazing". Don't know about the aluminum.

Jeremy,
I'm truly sorry to here of Terrys passing. Although I never met him
in person, I talked with him on the phone and through the internet.
He came across as a very nice guy with a passion for what he did.
My condolences go out to his family and friends.

In "Advanced Sheet Metal Fabrication" by Tim Remus, there's a chapter titled "Tanked in Minneapolis" it shows a guy at Donnie Smith's building a tank and using a hidden mount system that they fab in-house on page 88. Maybe they'll sell you one. good luck.

I finally broke down and bought this book, after studying their photos at the website http://www.zerochop.com/ for months, the $57 price tag after shipping was holding me back.
The book is even better than I had hoped, loaded with detailed shots of great homemade brackets, shifters, foot pedals, etc. I personally really enjoy this style of bike. Here is a quote from the book that kind of sums up his style: "...contrasting with the mainstream customization technique of using shiny chrome plating and billet parts. Exposing the usually hidden mechanical parts and bringing the spot to the beautiful form of reincarnated parts like the VL fork and drum brakes...". If any of you aren't familiar with him, he works with older HDs almost exclusively and there are great flatheads, knucks, pans and shovels at his site and in the book. Most of the bikes at his site are in the book, but the book has photos from all angles and close-ups of parts handmade for each particular bike. I'll be studying these details for a while. The price with shipping is steep, but they shipped real fast all the way from Japan, and I asked for
and got an autographed copy.
whom ever,
I am interested in building a non typical trike with a springer
frt.end Vtwin motor tube chassis non typical rearend (maybe from a
saturn or similar)automotive type, can be independant or standard
rearaxle. I want it to be low ground hugging style, any ideas or
suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm guessing you've seen the low slung Trike from Excile Cycles.
While I havn't seen that episode,I understand he used a Quaife
differential.

If you haven't seen Excile's trike,it's in the
center spread of the April issue of Back Street Heros.
(the British mag)
No doubt it would ride better with some DOT legal rubber,
instead of the Formula 1 rain tires they used.

I have an old Virago to use as my test project and it is shaft drive. I did see Excile's trike and it is close to what I am doing. Do you think that the Brit would send me a set of constuction plans (HAHA).
