Hi All:
Just want to update you on the car from Ebay last spring.
I am now back in Los Angeles after working in the Finger Lakes of New York State
for the summer, and have gotten the car running and driving pretty well.

Shortly after I got here Alex from Munich contacted me to let me know he was
visiting LA, and would like to see the car. Well, he pitched right in and we
have been working on the car and driving it since and having a great time.
We have: rebuilt the carb, replaced the front wheel bearings and axle boots,
balanced the front tires, installed new front struts, replaced the spark plug
wires, installed Pertronix electronic points, adjusted the valves, set the
timing, replaced broken exhaust hanger rubbers, and probably more I cannot
remember.

As you all know, sourcing parts is a challenge. Besides all the places on the
internet we are lucky in LA to have a couple shops that specialize in old VW
parts near where I live, and they each had a handfull of NOS parts for the Audi
(that they probably never thought they would sell).
I still have a list of things I need, but the Pomona swap meet is in 2 weeks so
I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I posted an album of a few pictures of the car, with one taken at one of my
favorite places: the rooftop parking lot of the Home Depot on Sunset Blvd. in
Hollywood. You can even see the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Park observatory
in the background.

It has surprised me to see the attention the Audi has gotten, as people really
notice it and look at it. I never expected to be noticed driving a tan 1971
100LS four door sedan.

Stay tuned for more as it happens,
John Strawway

Hi gang,
I've finally gotten around to working on my project after about two years. For
those that don't know, I've got a custom mid-engine kit car with (currently) a
Ford 231V6 coupled to an Audi 100LS automatic.
Today I worked on separating the tranny from the motor in preperations for
rebuilding both the tranny and the motor since they've been sitting for over 30
years! Anyway, I successfully pulled the transaxle and immediately the torque
convertor started to weep (well, leak, really) where the drive shaft had just
vacated.
I've been trying to read up on what these transmissions where used in other
than Audi, since they've got the VW tag on it as well. The trans number is 003
321 1052 (or 10SR - it's hard to read), and from what I've found these were also
used in transporters, the Audi Fox and a few others... I think. Is it the same
basic transaxle, just with an inboard brake system, or was this particular to
Audi?
In either case, I'll need to find someone to look over and rebuild this thing
and find a new or rebuilt convertor. It appears that rebuilt transaxles are
available on the net through various sources, and come with rebuilt convertors,
but how can I be sure it's the same transmission? They never post photos (the
online sellers), so I'm hesitant to do that. I know I had a member in this group
offer to rebuild my unit, but he's more than a few states away... is there
anyone in the Philadelphia area (or even eastern PA) that could do this?
Thanks,
Rick
