Hello,
As some of you know already, I'm very much in favour of whitewalls on a C1 -
even though I'm European myself! But of course I'll let everyone decide for
themselves which style they prefer. Here in Sweden, I'm pretty much alone with
my whitewalls on a European car, but I do get a lot of appreciation too.
Whitewalls are quite accepted for older cars, but an '80s or '90s European car
with whitewalls would probably be considered very odd, even if there is one
funny story about this. Some years ago in the small, rather isolated town of
Kiruna in northernmost Sweden, I started noticing cars of all ages and types
with whitewalls. Soon every other Volvo 740, Ford Sierra, Opel Kadett, VW Golf
or whatever would be driving on whitewalls. I wonder why, was there an
incredibly good deal on whitewalls at some local tyre shop? Or did someone
start this local fashion which then got followers all over town? I haven't seen
this phenomenon anywhere else...
I certainly won't argue with Theo's remark about whitewalls never being
originally installed on the C1, but I have seen what I believe are factory
photos of an Audi Super 90 with whitewall tyres.
The cabrio in the picture is just too beautiful! I've seen other "home made"
Audi 100 cabrios but none of them compare to this beauty. I love the colour and
the whitewalls! Wow! Is that your car, Jörg?
Those of you who have seen my 100 LS will understand my appreciation... Here's
a photo in dim light where it looks almost as nice and shiny as that cabrio...

Any day now I will put on the summer wheels with whitewalls again - I can't
wait!
Anyway, regarding the tyre size discussion, 185/70-14 are very close to the
original 165-14 diameter (percentage error is only 0.81%, according to Mark's
Tyer and Wheel Upgrade Calculator -
http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/tire.html ), even though they are 20 mm
wider.

/ Daniel - http://www.audivorsprung.com
