Daniel
I donot think that the grills can be exchanged. The early one
is more rounded around the headlights with a nice metal chrome trim
piece and the later has a plastic trim piece that is squared off
and takes a different fender. The early grill was really nice and
with sand blasting and some paint could be made to look new if it was
not bent. When I restored my first 73 it was the first thing I did.
The 73 and before also drive better as they still had torsion bar
independent rear suspension and not that coil over that did not keep
the wheel on the ground as well. The 71 is lighter as there were no
beams inside the doors for crash protection. I put 71 doors on my 73.
Good Luck
Clinton Berry
