No one has -- to my knowledge -- done the groundwork on a rallycross yet. I
walked the Cloquet business park just north of Cloquet on MN 33 and Strand
Rd and it would make an ideal site as there is no development there yet. I
just need to make some phone calls. Another possible site is the business
park in Esko.

As you all may not know, I have been on an advisory board at LSC for
quite a few years. I really do not recall any "new" buildings that
would cause problems for auto-crossing (at least not with in ten
years). The lower lot needs sweeping. The north lot was just resealed
(I'm sure that is out). I seem to recall that the revenue from auto-
crosses and rallies were used to seed the ice race. ERGO no zoom! I
can ask the Dean if the school would be interested, again. I assume
this would be for '05. MPS
Welcome Ron,
The club here used to be quite active in autocross, even had some challenge
events against Thunder Bay for the Friendship Games back in the 1980s. The
last couple of autocrosses the club put on were poorly attended, so we
haven't had one in about ten years. We were using the lots at Lake
Superior College, but they have put up buildings where those parking lots
were. We also used the east lot at Mariner Mall a few times. I have not
been there recently so don't know if the pavement is still useable.

Former ASCC member Tommy Archer finished 7th in the Speed GT race at Road
America over the weekend. His 3R-Racing Viper was saddled with extra
weight, added as an equalizer after his race win at Portland. Archer
entered the weekend as the Speed GT points leader, but is now second in points.

Meantime, brother Bobby Archer was competing in the Viper Racing League at
Brainerd, with a flock of Archer family on hand. He won Saturday's race by
about 20 seconds. He did not race on Sunday due to questions about the
level of prep on his race car.

Ron,
I've just started Autocross during the last year. Minnesota Autosports
Club www.mnautox.com has two more events this year. If you're up to
driving to St. Paul or St. Cloud, events are scheduled Sept. 25th and
Oct. 9th. I drive a 1994 Ford Probe to their events. There is a wide
variety of cars that come from all over.
To do it for fun locally, I imagine we need insurance, a stop watch and a
lot of cones.

I'm in Superior and was wondering if they did any autocross fun
things around here. I lived in Seattle for 4 yrs and the Car club I
was with did some autocrossing just for fun. It looked like alot of
fun. I wish I would have tried it. I have a 62 Corvair with a 140 HP
(4 Carbs) Engine. I just rebuilt the engine in it and it has a few
goodies and I figure it's about 170 HP. I dropped in some 3:55 gears
so on low end it's great. So I might like to try it. Any ideas?
Thanks!!

How about a car show in October? I'm thinking Import, Sport Compact and
Traditional Sports Cars. a few inquiries have already been made and we can
get promotional support from the Northland Reader (former ASCC member Bob
Boone is the publisher).
The last time we had a "formal" car show was Oct. 17, 1993, when John
Bonneville organized a show in Canal Park. I think there should be a "John
Bonneville Memorial Trophy" for some category, possibly People's Choice.
I have worked up several categories; you are welcome to add more.

Hi all,
Went to Brainerd on Saturday for the road races. Saw a lot of familiar
faces, a little older and grayer.
Former ASCC member Bobby Archer won the Viper Racing League race by about
20 seconds on Saturday. Most of the Archer family was on hand at Brainerd,
the exception being Tommy, who is racing at Road America in Wisconsin this
weekend. More results once I have them.
One thing that has really changed over the years... instead of hauling
Renault LeCars on questionable trailers, Bobby Archer's Viper Speed and
Archer Racing Accessories (now two separate companies, the latter now owned
by John Archer) were there with semi-trailers loaded with cars and parts.
Both companies are actively involved in the Viper Racing League, providing
crew support and parts for a number of Viper racers.

Just a reminder, the Spirit Valley Car Show is this evening, Aug 4. Don't
know the exact location, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I seem to
recall the K-Mart parking lot nearest Central Avenue in past years.
BTW, still looking for workers for the NASCAR/SCCA races at Brainerd Int'l
Raceway and the SCCA Ojibwe Forests ProRally.

Just a reminder, there is a car show this evening -- 7/28 -- at Archer
Racing. Starts after work, about 5 or 6 pm.
Congratulations to Tommy Archer for his victory at Portland last weekend!

In case you missed it on the first
go-round, the one-hour documentary on the 2003 Targa Newfoundland
international tarmac rally will appear again on SPEED Channel:
Friday, July 23, 2004, 10:00pm (eastern)
or set your VCRs and catch the two re-plays:
Saturday morning (Friday overnight) July 23, 2:00am (eastern)
Friday morning (Thursday overnight) July 29, 3:00am (eastern).
Check it out.
= = = = =
Would someone kindly tape this for me? I don't get SPEED channel,
and since I was a participant and have heard that my face is featured in
at least one scene, I would like to see it (the program, not my
face).
Thanks!
BTW: Looking for a ride at TN this year. Thought I had one,
but it fell through this week.
Hi Jon. I still have your check in my pocket. When I get back from Mass o'
two shits, I will pick up the donor truck. You may not know that I had a
visit from the MPCA and the Environmental Enforcement Officer from St. Louis
Co. Sherrifs Office late last year. I spent most of my winter cleaning out
Carl's, Phil's and my junk vehicles. I am only allowed 5 non-running or
non-licensed vehicles on my property. Lots of people assume that because I
have acreage, they can just drop off their stuff. I had planned to pick up
the donor in June. But some knuckle head dumped two NR cars off before he
moved to South Dakota in June. He just picked them up last week. AARGH!!!
The nerve! So there it is. I will be in touch. Mark

SVD parade is Thursday, August 5th. that's also my birthday, but I'm sure no
one cares about THAT.
Jon XOXO
P.S.: I've never cared much for Yahoo Groups
Even though there will be no ASCC entry in the parade, we could still get
together for the Car Show and look at all the chrome.
The Spirit Valley web site is apparently not up to date as it shows 8/4 for
the car show, but I'm pretty sure it is in late July. Anyone know the date
for sure?
