FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC APTERA 2e
PUSHED BACK TO 2010
Co-founders Fambro and Anthony step aside from day-to-day operations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: PCGCampbell – Jeff Green (310) 224-4961 (jgreen@...)
VISTA, Calif. (Nov. 18, 2009) -- In September 2008, when fledgling vehicle
manufacturer Aptera named Paul Wilbur president and CEO, the 27-year Detroit
auto executive set forth a series of financial goals and product deadlines.
"Aptera's production and delivery will be tied directly to funding," said
Wilbur.
During the past 12 months, the company's initial offering – the aerodynamic
Aptera 2e, an all-electric, three-wheeled two-seater that gets the equivalent of
200-plus mpg – has evolved from concept to near reality. Companies including
Google and IdeaLab have made significant investments in the southern California
auto manufacturer, and numerous potential private and public backers are in the
process of doing their due diligence. However, according to Wilbur, the vehicle
development progress has been outpacing the rate of fundraising.
"We're making significant progress every day with product refinements, the
completion of engineering and design details, and securing meaningful strategic
partnerships," says Wilbur. "However, we now have to adjust our production
schedule to align with financing realities. Properly managing the resources of
the company means we'll complete our first vehicles in 2010, not by the end of
2009 as previously projected.
"Aptera management is being a prudent steward of all resources to ensure future
viability for the company and strong returns for its stakeholders. Therefore,
we'll begin volume production vehicles once our current series of private
funding has closed or when we secure financing through the Department of
Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle loan program, whichever comes first."
The aerodynamically-inspired Aptera 2e goes from zero to 60 in under 10 seconds,
tops out at 90 mph and has already received nearly 4,000 deposits, which are
fully refundable and remain in an escrow account. The production vehicle
includes enhanced safety features, a redesigned interior cabin that is airy and
user-friendly, a monocoque, structural composite body as well as a telematics
and infotainment system.
"I'm as disappointed as any of our depositors and loyal followers around the
country that we're delaying initial production," says Wilbur. "There's no one
who's more anxious than we are to put the 2e on the road.
"Because of this production delay, we've unfortunately been forced to lay off
some hard working employees. It's a strategy to streamline our spending to hone
in on the items that advance our fundraising and completion of our first
vehicle.
"Additionally as part of this plan, co-founder Chris Anthony is stepping aside
from day-to-day activities to concentrate on his two other companies, Epic Boats
and Flux Power."
Aptera's other co-founder, Steve Fambro, who started tinkering with the idea of
building an aerodynamic vehicle five years ago, is taking a short leave of
absence and will re-engage with the company in the new year.
"Right now my advanced work is a lower priority for Aptera," said Fambro, the
company's Chief Technical Officer who directs all advanced concept development
activities. "We've got to be wholly focused on funding and getting the first 2e
on the road.
"Paul's leadership and (chief engineer) Tom Reichenbach's talent have led to
changes in the vehicle that are spot-on. They've made the vehicle safer, it's
better handling and more comfortable. Once we get through this stage, we'll
begin mass producing the 2e – the most aerodynamic and efficient vehicle in the
world."
According to Wilbur, "Building and launching a new car company is the challenge
of a lifetime – even in the best economic times. At Aptera, this is especially
true because we didn't start with an existing architecture for our vehicle. The
2e was designed from scratch, which is why we're focused on properly, and
painstakingly, creating a foundation that can succeed over time; it's a chance
for everybody working at Aptera to reshape the automotive world for the next
generation."
About Aptera
Aptera Motors (www.aptera.com) was founded in 2006 to develop and build the
safest, most energy efficient commuter vehicles on the road. Utilizing
streamlined aerodynamic design, lightweight composite structures and unique
drive systems, Aptera (which means wingless flight) delivers vehicles that are
attainable and efficient. The company operates two Southern California
facilities in north San Diego County, where it designs, engineers and
manufactures the vehicles and their composite systems to create an exceptionally
strong, sleek body.
It seemed like it would only be a matter of time before Toyota
would jump into the market of using renewable energy to charge a car
and they have done so in a big way. The solar charging station by
Toyota will be put on display at the Tokyo Motor Show 2009. While there
are other charging stations on the market for electric cars, the fact
that this one is solar powered has the industry abuzz in anticipation.

GOING GREEN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES GRAND PRIZE FROM APTERA
Anticipated Electric Car Adds Excitement to First Round of Green Film
Submissions
Los Angeles, CA (August 19, 2009) — The Going Green Film Festival (GGFF), a
unique, first-of-its-kind film festival promoting environmental awareness, today
announced Aptera Motors will be donating an exclusive test drive of an Aptera
electric vehicle and a much coveted tour of the facility to the grand prize
winner of the film festival. Seeking to credit eco-conscious filmmakers and
build greater awareness of social and environmental issues, the Going Green Film
Festival continues its call for entries with a discounted Earlybird deadline of
Monday, August 31, 2009.
In addition to hybrid electric bicycles, a tree planted in the winners' names
and film and screenwriting software, the grand prize winner will now receive an
exclusive test drive of the anticipated Aptera-2e with Aptera President and CEO,
Paul B. Wilbur as well as a private tour of the 75,000-sq. ft. Aptera facility
in Vista, California. The site is used for testing, engineering, and production
of future Aptera vehicles, including the much anticipated 2e model. The
three-wheeled, aerodynamic electric car gets over 100mpg and is scheduled for
official production later this year to meet the 4,000+ vehicles already in
demand.
"We filmmakers use a lot of natural resources to produce a film. It can't be
helped. But by bringing the green movement to the entertainment industry, we
look to reward filmmakers that have taken strides to preserve our planet both on
and off the set," said Patrice Williams, Founder of the Going Green Film
Festival. "We are thrilled about Aptera Motors' donation to GGFF, and hope it
will inspire other filmmakers to think green and adopt eco-conscious practices."
Films may be submitted online at www.goinggreenfilmfestival.com and are being
considered for three main categories:
GREEN PRODUCTION, where a film's production worked to lessen the carbon
footprint left on the planet (with sufficient documentation of this process);
Film can be ANY Genre.
OUR PLANET, where the film's topic covers third world issues, ecology, nature or
the environment; and
HYBRID/ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION, where the film features a hybrid vehicle,
bicycle, electric scooter or public transportation. Film can be ANY Genre.
Films must be between 20 and 120 minutes in length and have been completed
between 2008 and 2010.
Films submitted by the Earlybird deadline of August 31st will receive a reduced
submission fee of $45. The Standard deadline is November 30th, with a submission
fee of $55 and the Final deadline is January 15, 2010, with a submission fee
$65. Each submission fee includes a $20 donation towards Renewable Energy
Certificates (RECs). For every REC purchased, one megawatt-hour of renewable
electricity is delivered to power grids.
Sponsors of the Going Green Film Festival include Aptera, Fuji Film, 3Degrees
Inc., Eco-conscious printer Indie Printing, Pro8mm, The Daily Green, Google
Grants, Screenplay.com, Production Hub and Niagara as the official water sponsor
with their new Eco-Air Bottle™. 3Degrees is providing Renewable Energy
Certificates (RECs) to festival participants as part of their mission to reduce
the magnitude of climate change by funding clean energy and carbon reduction.
As a charitable fundraiser, the Going Green Film Festival also raises funds for
the Minorities in Broadcast Training Program (MIBTP), a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
organization formed in 1992 to provide training opportunities to college
graduates in TV/radio news reporting, news management and film/TV production.
MIBTP can be reached at 310-652-0271 or at emailus@....
More information about the Going Green Film Festival as well as best practice
guidelines for sustainable filmmaking can be found at
www.goinggreenfilmfestival.com. Subscribers to the Going Green Film Festival
e-newsletter are eligible to win two of ten free all-access passes for the
festival.
About Going Green Film Festival:
The Going Green Film Festival (GGFF) is the only festival of it's kind that not
only encourages "green" filmmaking, but requires each entrant/participant to
contribute to renewable energy in a fun and easy way. GGFF aims to spotlight
those who are working to preserve our planet through entertainment and help
inspire other filmmakers to adopt green practices, build greater awareness of
social and environmental issues, and raise money for the Minorities in Broadcast
Training Program (MIBTP), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1992 to
provide training opportunities to college graduates in TV/radio news reporting,
news management and film/TV production.
