Jan,
The 2000 Touring Spider was never officially available in Celeste Blue. My
1958-1962 colour chart shows that the Celeste colour AR301 (Factory Five
Digit code 12907) was originally available on the Guilietta Spider
(1955-1962) and the 1900 Super Bicolore (1953-1958). I have also seen it on
a number of occasions on Guilietta Sprints. My Italver swatches have Celeste
as being available on Giulia Spyder and Giulia Spyder eloces but not being
available in the States.
Check with Elvira Ruocco at the factory archives (elvira.ruocco@...)
quoting your chassis number for confirmation of the original paint colour.
Most 102 and 106 series cars seem to have been available to order in any
Alfa colour requested and AR301 is definitely a 1958 period colour. AR301 is
still available from PPG Deltron under their ref ALF.301 If you want to see
the Celeste AR301 colour in all its glory it can be viewed at
http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1965-alfaromeo-pg03.
jpg (The actual mix of ingredient colours can be seen on that web page so a
local Glasurit dealer might be able to match the original colour from those
details).
My later Gipgloss catalogue has Celeste under Factory Five Digit code
KF.18657/R which equates to the 1963-1971 1300,1600 and 1750 Spider colour
AR513 and a Gipgloss ref no of 24570. It might be the same colour which has
been renamed by Alfa as they regularly did or it might be a different colour
altogether. I suggest you try locating the AR301 colour once you have
confirmed that your car was Celeste with Elvira.
There were later Celeste colours, PPG have a much darker1986 colour called
Celeste
Chiaro (AR360) and 1984 metallic versions under Celeste Chiaro Met (AR243
and AR365). ICI have the Celeste Chiaro under their refs AR359 (ICI refs
HC97 - 79-81 and HK43 - 81-83) as well as AR365 (ICI ref 0675B - 82-85).
Ault and Wiborg have Celeste Chiaro AR359 and AR360 (both 1978 vintage)
under their refs 35226 and 35225 as well as Celeste AR513 1963-1971 (A+W
Five Digit code 24570). I would ignore all of these apart from the AR301 and
AR513 colours as they are all significantly darker than the original colour
despite sharing similar names.
Original 2000 Spider colours were Giallo Paglierino/Straw Yellow (AR105 -
Five digit codes 12250, KF.15480 and AR3536.20105 (Synthetic)), Rosso
Alfa/Alfa Red (AR501 - Five digit codes 12207, KF. 12924/2 and
AR3536.20501(Synthetic)), Grigio Biacca/Grey-White (AR702 - Five digit codes
12238, KF. 15478 and AR3536. 20702 (Synthetic)), Grigio Grafite/Graphite
Grey (AR716 - Five digit codes 13505, KF. 15485 and AR3536.20716
(Synthetic)) and Nero/Black (AR901 - Five digit code 12380, KF. 12937/2 and
AR3536.20901 (Synthetic)).
AR105 was a struggle to find, I did find it but cannot remember where on the
web. AR501 was available from ICI, A+W, PPG and Valentine paints (It must
match with the five digit codes or you will end up with a car of many
colours - 69 options of AR501 were available at one time). AR702 was
available from A+W, AR716 was available from ICI and AR901 was available
from ICI and PPG. There are other paint shops on the web that have some, if
not all of these colours.
Of course these colours are getting harder to find in Cellulose so you might
have to use a twin-pack.
Hope this helps,
Eric Harrison
