kurt--

So, I am ass-uming (and not really knowing) that the Code E, OBD1
brain-box and the ignition module *can* retard the spark based upon
coolant heat. It matters not if the spark retard feature lives in the
ignition module or in the ECM. But it *IS* there.

I want maximum allowable, controlled, spark advance, as much as possible.

So, what I propose is the use of mid-range gasoline or better, a 180*
t-stat, and outside, cool, air to the TBI.

The temperature related spark retard in the newer (1996-up) OBD2 ECMs
is triggered by two things: a coolant temperature of 212* F. AND by an
intake air temperature of 86* F. or higher..would I be correct in
ass-uming that the OBD1 ECM is set-up the same way??

I have already changed over to a 180* F. Moto-rad t-stat, and removed
the resonator/flow restriction in the intake tubing to the air
cleaner. My further plans are to bring the "Mouth" of the OE intake
air opening forward, to just behind the grille opening. Cold Air
Induction. These two small changes, along with a basic tune-up, really
"woke-up" my Iron Duke. It now pulls really hard, up through the
gears, just like you'd expect...

Steady Eddie

It does not. I have the latest/greatest 1993 engine harness (which I'm in the process of fitting to an 85 engine) and I can tell you with 100% certainty that...
