Yes it does retard spark based on coolant temperature, but you have
to be careful if you are planning on artificially manipulating
coolant temp to retard spark because there are fueling parameters
also tied to coolant temp.
There's a slope as I recall (its been a while since I was in the
code, and it was for an 87 engine) that you could adjust timing
retard per degree of coolant temp.
