The pilot air screw should set to three-quarters (3/4) of a turn out for a base setting. Further adjustment will be required after engine is warmed and idling....

Okay, the screw with the white thumbwheel on it is the pilot air screw. The other with the jam nut is the idle screw. There is no base setting for the idle...

Not sure if this is applicable, but if the gas was off means you were running out of gas which will make the engine rev because it has more air than fuel....

Are you looking at the nut? Sometimes hard ware isn't machined to the best tolerances. Look at the cdi rotor, it's probably made to tighter tolerances. But if...
