I had similar leak and had to have replacement water pump; independent garage
did it, and charged total of £300 including parts and labour, but also replaced
the cam belt included in price at the same time as was easy to do whilst doing
the water pump.

thermostat is directly above the flywheel and would not be leaking.
Mine broke the cheap plastic part which attaches to the left end of
the radiator and has a cap on it. Cooked the motor so now it has a
2litre 4 cylinder instead

only to discover it has a major coolant leak. I have been told it
needs a new water pump and thermostat. Water pump is probably a
garage job but could someone tell me where the thermostat is so I can
start with that and maybe save a huge garage bill.
